The Environmental Management Authority of the Municipality of La Pintana (DIGA) in its social commitment to the community, seeks to estimate and meet their carbon emissions, in order to adapt to the new requirements of environmental sustainability. The Carbon Footprint calculation allows a measurement of emissions of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) generated by human activity. Its international standardization, generated interest on the measurement of these emissions in order to obtain a certification, and then to get access to the growing carbon’s market. Its implementation and subsequent validation is the basis for future projects that would reduce GHG emissions, affecting global climate change and participate in the carbon emissions markets. This paper aims to make an inventory of GHG emissions, also called Carbon Footprint, for the Administrative Area of the DIGA, by identifying areas and activities that influence the measurement and calculation of Carbon emissions equivalent to the base year 2010. In the study case methodology was used as basis the norm ISO 14064-1:2006. This tool provides guidance on the selection process and to consider how to proceed in the GHG emissions inventory. Standard methodology was use for calculation, providing guidelines of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in 2006 (IPCC) in different categories, using equations and emission factors given in both them, GHG Protocol and Departament for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) tables. The organizational boundary selected included all emissions and/or removals of DIGA facilities over which it has control of an operational or financial way. These operations are determined direct emissions, indirect for energy use and by other indirect emissions, expressed as t CO2-e. The final emission for 2010 to the DIGA corresponds 200.453 t CO2-e, corresponding to 1.805 t CO2-e per employee. The greatest emissions 142,117 t CO2-e are due to bus transportation, otherwise emissions saved by biking or walking to DIGA correspond to 5.70 t CO2-e. This study demonstrates that an inventory of GHG emissions is an opportunity to improve existing operations within the control of an operational or financial DIGA generally. The optimization of operations, the collecting of information about that an...
