Definitions

The Academic Repository of the University of Chile is the institutional archive that collects academic and scientific production generated in the university and allows the dissemination and access to national and international community.

It has a technology platform which allows you to organize, manage and preserve digital documentation of their academics, researchers and agencies internal managed by the Department of Library and Information Services (SISIB).

To implement guidelines and standards so that interoperability, preservation and perpetual access to digital documents and their metadata as well as data integrity and content favors apply.

The inspiration of this repository is to provide open access as much information on the scientific and academic production by the students and researchers from the University of Chile.

For operation of the Academic Repository defines the following guidelines:

Access
  • Access to the documents deposited will be governed according to the licenses set forth by different authors and academic units when entering documents.
  • It is possible to redefine the terms of access and viewing documents, academics and researchers, if necessary.
Contents

Depositing a wide range of materials is acceptable:

  • Journals articles (preprints and post-prints). Preprints are the versions presented by the authors to be evaluated by a committee of peers of scientific journals. The post prints are the final versions are published in scientific journals, with the logo editor. The database SHERPA/ROMEO collect the of more than 700 publishers, is a useful tool to test it is possible o not to deposit a scientific article journal.
  • Communications conferences, seminars and other scientific meetings and presentations and posters
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate dissertation
  • Books and book chapters
  • Teaching materials and presentations
  • Technical Reports
  • Images
  • Maps
  • Datasets
  • Sound and Audiovisual Recordings
  • Institutional Documentation: official documents, administrative reports.
  • Different publication formats are accepted, but for reasons of accessibility and digital preservation is recommended an easily readable format in the web environment (such as PDF).
  • Metadata

    Descriptive information of the documents deposited in the repository facilitates recovery, authentication, appraisal, preservation and / or interoperability.

    The Dublin Core metadata scheme is used. Any user can access the metadata. This metadata can be reused without explicit permission provided credit is given to the original metadata record in the Academic Repository of the University of Chile is made.

Preservation
  • All versions of the documents filed are retained. If a new edition of a work is deposited, a new metadata record is created and is considered as a new document. If the author wishes, you can determine access to full text only to the most recent edition.
  • Delete records is not contemplated, except works the following cases:

    • Works that are not relevant to the objectives defined by the Repository.
    • Support a file format or display which is poor.
    • Contain a virus or other technical problem arises.
  • To ensure the preservation of the documents will be available in institutional storage servers, performing backups and periodic reviews to ensure the integrity of the files.
  • If necessary, consider copy, convert or migrate the documents to other media or formats for preservation and access purposes (for example, if the current media or formats are obsolete).
File Formats

Several publication formats are accepted, but for reasons of accessibility and digital preservation is an easily readable format recommended in the web environment (such as PDF) files whose format is open as RTF, TIFF, JPG

The DSpace software dividing files into 3 different categories based on the degree of support level format:

  • Supported: DSpace fully support the format.
  • known: DSpace recognize the format but full support file is not 100% guaranteed.
  • Not supported: DSpace format not recognized.

Privacy Policy

The Academic Repository protects for the information entered by users Repository at time of registration to ensure privacy and will not use your information (name, email, etc.) for purposes other than the operation of the service.

Regulations for thesis
  • Decree exent No. 20795 de 2003 [download]

    This decree establishes the obligation to submit an electronic copy of the thesis and undergraduate at the University of Chile. Further that accompanied the delivery of an electronic version of the thesis student must submit an authorization form, duly signed where indicated whether to authorize access to the full text of your thesis. It is established that the Schools and Departments of Study undergraduate and graduate of the University must send the thesis in electronic format along with the authorization form to the Office of Information and Library Services through its School Libraries or Institute.
