The importance of cooperativism in the world lies, mainly, in its contribution to the employability and to the economy. However, the level of development reached by these companies worldwide is uneven, given that in some places they are important players and in others they only reach an early development. The cooperative model has had great influence in the agrarian sector, but in many cases, the product offering outside of the cooperative territory is very limited. In this context, this investigation tries to answer the question of what are the factors that help an agricultural cooperative insert itself in the international market. The following factors were analyzed: the origin, definition and principles of cooperatives, the global presence of cooperatives, the regulatory framework in Chile and other countries and, finally, cases of cooperatives in Chile and other countries based primarily on information gathered in personal interviews. The main results of this investigation are: that the commitment and loyalty of the members with the cooperative are key elements that enable the company project itself, that the level of participation of the cooperative members in the cooperative gives a sustaining dynamism, that the trust of the cooperative members in cooperative management is a key point to establish long-term objectives and to take risks, that the educational factor is essential for the instruction of the cooperative members and a positive influence to the decision-making process, that the sense of community could be limiting the projection outside the cooperative borders and, lastly, that the cooperative access to resources and funding is related to the development context where the cooperative is and is influential in the business development. Therefore, it is finally concluded that the factors that influence the internationalization of agricultural cooperatives are, on the one hand, the behavior of cooperatives in terms of: voluntary adhesion, economic participation, democratic control, education, sense of identity and visualization of the benefit. Moreover, the degree of support of the environment (economic, political, social) in which the cooperative is inserted plays a decisive role....
