Canine pituitary dependent hyperadrenocorticism or Cushing's disease is an endocrine disorder of the middle-aged or older dogs. It is consequence of the excessive levels of cortisol produced chronically by adrenal cortex. It is produced because of the gland hyperstimulation, commanded by an hypersecretion of ACTH by pituitary gland. These patients frequently suffer comorbidities due to other pathologies, presented mostly in older dogs or by complications of hypercortisolism. The most widely accepted treatment for Cushing's disease is the pharmacological, which traditionally sought to reduce the levels of cortisol produced in the adrenal gland without controlling the size of the tumor, with the risks of brain damage involved. In this line, pharmacotherapy still in use is mitotane, trilostane and ketoconazole, being trilostane the one that presents a greater use because it provides a life expectancy, at least equal to mitotane, and a lower prevalence of adverse effects. In addition to this therapeutic option, in the last 10 years, scientific researching sought to medications which acts at pituitary level and that are able to control both, tumor size and cortisol levels. In this way, researchers are trying to improve the prognosis, increase the survival, reduce the presentation of adverse effects and the probability of presenting neurological signs. This is how there are currently studies that propose the use of retinoic acid, cabergoline and pasireotide. In the case of pasireotide it has also been studied concomitantly with the use of adrenal action drugs. This line of treatment although it will require more studies in the area, due to the low occurrence of adverse effects in dogs and the promising results obtained, they become a therapeutic option to consider. Finally, according to the information collected in this work about each drug, a treatment algorithm for Cushing's disease is proposed, which involves the presence of comorbidities and serves as a guide when deciding on a medical treatment. This should include the instruction of the owner regarding risks of the therapy and should consider the inexperience and limited knowledge of each drug, for which treatment should be prudent in terms of dose and monitoring of a chronic patient....
