There is no environmental regulation about ground quality in Chile, because is necessary to have a baseline for its elaboration which contains the natural concentrations or background including the geological complexity and diversity of the chilean grounds. According to the backgrounds, into the investigation area in Copiapó, Tierra Amarilla, Chañaral y Diego de Almagro commune, III region of Chile, the natural concentrations have not been determined and does not exist a standard methodology for it. This make difficult the identification of contaminated areas what could be exist there, whereas both mining and agriculture industry are the main business activities of the region and both could create a significant negative impact over the ground. In this investigation, we worked with a database with concentration values for metals (As, Cu, Mn, Fe, Al, Ni, Co, Cd, Pb y Hg) at the surface ground. The employers of the environmental chemical laboratory from the National center of environment (CENMA) collected and analyzed the samples. Four hundred and forty-one samples of the ground were recollected from 63 sites where does not exist anthropogenic activity apparently, that is to say, unused known ground sites. An univariate statistical analyze was done, where classic and strong parameters were calculated allowing to characterize the statistical distribution piece of information, which is represented by combined diagrams, previously using the mathematical transformation“ Isometric Log-ratio” over the database. Then using the class classification criteria of Box-plot suggested by Turkey J. (1977), we determinated the natural range of concentration and the abnormal value for each elements. Using the software called QGIS 2.18.11 version, we developed “geo-chemical” maps, which represent the distribution of the spatial concentration. With this, we identified the abnormal areas, corresponding to sites where concentrations exceed the established limits given by the range of concentrations. After this, we characterize the designated areas, putting focus in the positive anomalies, using the information of the kind of ground, geology and geomorphology of each site. xiii Based on the chemical association resulting of the multivariate statistical analyze, at the same time with geological criteria’s, corresponding to the presence of metal deposits in the investigation area, we determined, as a possibility, the processes that explain the spatial distribution and the concentration of the metal elements investigated are predominantly naturals, non-dismissing diffused anthropogenic sources. A reference geochemical map was design representing the most likely exposure contact concentration over time using the 95% UCL value of each of the sampling sites. The Arsenic was chosen as a reference element, since it is considered a priority contaminant due to its toxicity; in addition, it was the element that presented the main number of positive anomalies. Finally, the results of this study provide baseline information that could be used for decision making in public health, city management, land management, soil management and their protection....
