Funda[mental] : Hospital de Día Dr. Martín Cordero
(Universidad de Chile, 2023)

In the heart of Matta Sur neighborhood, timidly standing amidst the crowd, lies the Doctor Martín Cordero Day Hospital. However, within its walls lie hidden realities unknown to the rest of the world, where the scarcity of dignified space and stigmatization have left an indelible mark on those suffering from mental disorders in Chile. In this document, our focus is to transform these adversities into opportunities of hope and healing. Every constructed space is a tangible testimony of our humanity, and as architects, we must strive to elevate the experiences of individuals, especially for those who are seeking and in need of healing. By designing with empathy, we aim to deliver a message of inclusion. With the commitment to overcome the invisible barriers imposed by society on those who deviate from the norm, we envision an architectural project that transcends mere functionality. Every element of this project carries a story of resilience and triumph. The community and the materials are harmoniously intertwined, while the paces invite interaction and connection, becoming a refuge within a city that often feels cold and inhospitable. Nature weaves itself into the spaces, forging a bond between the territory and the community that inhabits this place. Stigmatization dissipates in the warmth of acceptance and integration. We aspire to surpass the preconceived limits imposed on such hospitals, paving the way for a future where dignified space is an inalienable right for all. This project is a testament to love and empathy, an urgent call to challenge the norms dictated by society and embark on a journey of transformation towards social justice and equality....
