Maltrato infantil : evaluación de la calidad técnica y los contenidos de los sitios web chilenos

Abstract

El maltrato infantil es una patología grave de alta prevalencia en Chile y el mundo. Sus consecuencias pueden perdurar por toda la vida. Los medios de comunicación masivos son una herramienta útil para movilizar a la población y prevenir el maltrato infantil en la sociedad. Internet es un medio de comunicación masivo reciente y poco estudiado en sus aplicaciones a la salud mental, que se ha convertido en una fuente de información de salud relevante, que afecta las conductas posteriores de los usuarios. El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar la presencia y calidad de la información disponible en la web sobre maltrato infantil para el público general chileno. Se revisaron 750 sitios web, de los cuales 58 cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión. Se agruparon en 3 grupos según su origen: instituciones de gobierno (10), ONGs (14) y otros (34). No se encontró correlación entre la calidad técnica de los sitios evaluados y sus contenidos. No se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre la calidad de los contenidos desplegados por los sitios web de gobierno y ONGs al compararlos con los de otros orígenes. Se encontraron diferencias significativas al comparar la calidad técnica de los sitios entre estos mismos grupos. El mejor sitio en general fue el de violenciaintrafamiliar.org, sitio creado por una ONG. La encontrabilidad de los sitios mejor evaluados fue muy baja. El estado actual de la información sobre maltrato infantil en Internet disponible para el público general chileno es escasa e incompleta. Los sitios web no cumplen con los criterios de calidad técnica mínimos deseables y los contenidos están centrados en la definición del maltrato infantil, sin hacer uso de las posibilidades de realizar promoción y difusión de herramientas de prevención donde Internet ha demostrado ser un medio costo-efectivo útil de intervención en salud pública.

Child abuse is a terrible disease, highly prevalent in Chile and in the rest of the world. Its consequences last throughout a person’s lifetime. Mass media like television and newspapers are important tools to educate people and to encourage child abuse prevention. The Internet is a relatively recent and powerful mass medium. It is now an increasingly important health information resource. People modify their behavior after looking for health information on the Internet. Little research has been conducted on the applicability of the Internet in mental health. The objective of this project was to measure the presence and quality of child abuse information on the Internet available to Chilean patients. 750 web sites were analyzed, and 58 were included in the final sample. We constructed 3 different groups: government web sites (10), non-governmental organizations’ web sites (14), and others (34). We could not find a correlation between the technical quality and the contents of the web sites. We could not find a statistically significant difference between the quality of the contents on government and NGO web sites compared to others’ web sites. We found statistically significant differences in technical quality between these same groups. Overall, the best web site was violenciaintrafamiliar.org, a site created for a NGO. The findability of the best web sites was very poor. We concluded that the quality of information on child abuse on the Internet for Chilean patients is extremely poor and incomplete. The web sites are not technically satisfactory, and the contents are very basic (mostly just a definition of the problem). We are not using the power of the Internet for promotion and prevention to reduce child abuse in a cost-effective way.
