Abstractdc.description.abstractThe aggressiveness is one of the most common and complex problems that affect our canine pets. This can be presented in varied ways, being the most frequent and of more epidemic connotation, the aggression directed toward people, especially toward the defenseless as children and old people. There are many cases of people bitten every year what means a greater cost for the services of public health and it implies, sometimes, fatal consequences. The goal of this study was to determine the incidence of these cases in veterirary practices in Santiago and the measures applied by the veterinarians to its control and prevention. To achieve this, a survey was applied to 191 veterinary clinical of Santiago city Chile. The results conclude that in most of the interviewed practices, the veterinarians recognized problems of aggressiveness in their canine patients, and described a high proportion of cases in practices located in areas belonging to low socioeconomic stratum. A high number of veterinaries also treat directly the cases of aggressiveness being the behavior therapy, the treatment more used followed by surgical treatment and medical therapy, none use hormonal therapy or euthanasia.en_US
