Adaptación de una escala para evaluar actitudes, empatía y apego hacia los animales en escolares chilenos de 9 a 12 años de edad

Abstract

En Chile, los problemas de salud pública son diversos, entre ellos, descontrol de la población de animales, perros y gatos, que afectan diversos aspectos del bienestar físico y psicológico de estos y de las personas relacionadas; dada la problemática presente es que el término “Tenencia Responsable” requiere ser internalizado en el comportamiento del cuidado de los animales, lo cual ocurre principalmente en las primeras etapas de socialización de niños y niñas. En Reino Unido el concepto de Duty of Care (DOC) se basa en comprender el entendimiento y percepción que poseen niños y niñas respecto de sus mascotas, para poder diseñar intervenciones educativas, evaluando actitudes, empatía y apego sobre la base del conocimiento temprano hacia los animales. En Chile, no existen investigaciones que evalúen estos tres conceptos en conjunto, es por esto que se adopta este modelo. Objetivo: Desarrollar la adaptación semántica y cultural de un cuestionario que evalúa actitudes, apego y empatía hacia los animales de compañía desarrollado en el enfoque DOC, en un grupo de escolares chilenos de cuarto a séptimo básico del colegio Qhapaq Kuna en la Región Metropolitana. Para la realización de la Memoria de título se utilizarán tres procesos metodológicos: El primero se sustenta en la adecuación de la traducción y retrotraducción del instrumento original, “Children and Young people’s views of animals and pets”, desde el idioma inglés al español chileno por medio de los pasos de traducción simple, retrotraducción y, revisión de la equivalencia idiomática y semántica. Una segunda fase para el estudio de la comprensión y aceptabilidad del instrumento presentado a una muestra de 32 escolares, por medio de una entrevista que consiste en dos partes, La primera donde responden el cuestionario traducido, y la segunda donde se conversa con el escolar, donde dará su opinión del cuestionario. La recolección de datos se hará por medio de la transcripción de las respuestas y el análisis será de tipo cualitativo. La tercera fase que contempla una consulta a expertos para recolectar las indicaciones sobre la aplicabilidad del cuestionario y recomendaciones sobre su uso específico desde sus propios campos de acción. La muestra de participantes fue de 8 profesionales: 3 Médicos Veterinarios, 3 Profesores/as de educación básica, 2 Psicólogos/as infantiles proclives a las temáticas de cuidado. Dicha consulta se realizó en el formato de una entrevista vía online a cada experto. El análisis de respuestas se realizó con una matriz de respuestas, la que se dividió en dos secciones, la primera de análisis de frecuencia en escala dicotómica, y la segunda de análisis descriptivo de las justificaciones entregadas por los expertos a las preguntas realizadas. Los resultados obtenidos son de aceptación hacia el instrumento, donde se produce el cambio de 8 de los 41 ítems a evaluar. En cuanto a la escala de empatía, se recomienda remodelarla, para lograr con seguridad medir empatía niño-animal.

Objective: To develop semantic and cultural adaptation of a questionnaire that evaluates attitudes, attachment and empathy for companion animals developed the approach DOC in a group of Chilean students in fourth through seventh grade from Qhapaq KunaSchool in the Metropolitan Region. For this, three methodological processes were used: The first is based on the adequacy of translation and the back translation of the original instrument, "Children and Young people's views of animals and pets" in English to Chilean Spanish by the steps simple translation, back translation, revision of the language and semantic equivalence. This consultation will be held in the format of an interview via online each expert. The analysis of responses will be with an array of responses, which will be divided into two sections, the first frequency analysis on dichotomous scale, and the second will be descriptive analysis of the justifications that provide experts to questions made. The results obtained are of acceptance of the instrument, where the change of 8 of the 41 items to assess occurs. As for the scale of empathy, it is recommended remodel to achieve child-safe measuring the animal empathy.
