Determinación del componente genético de variables productivas y conductuales, y la influencia de éstas sobre el precio de las pieles, en un criadero de chinchillas (Chinchilla lanigera), en la comuna de Pirque, Chile

Abstract

El objetivo del estudio fue determinar el componente genético de variables productivas y conductuales, y la influencia de éstas sobre el precio final de las pieles en una explotación comercial de chinchillas (Chinchilla lanigera). Los datos para los análisis corresponden a 10198 chinchillas, registrados entre los años 1990 y 2011, en un criadero en Pirque, en la Región Metropolitana. Los análisis revelaron que existe una relación positiva entre el peso corporal al nacimiento (PN), y el peso corporal al sacrificio (PS) de los animales, con el precio de las pieles. Sin embargo, el peso corporal al destete (PD) no afecta el precio de las pieles. El estudio también demostró que existe una diferencia significativa entre los precios de pieles que provienen de animales que realizaron tricofagia, en comparación a aquellos provenientes de chinchillas que no presentaron dicha conducta. Además, se observó que el PN, PD, PS y la tricofagia son características que poseen variaciones genéticas significativas, con estimaciones de heredabilidad de 0,70, 0,56, 0,29, y 0,16, respectivamente, siendo el precio de las pieles el único rasgo analizado que no presentó una variación genética significativa

The aim of this study was to determine the genetic component of productive and behavorial traits, and their influence over the final fur price in a comercial explotation of chinchillas (Chinchilla lanigera). The data for the analysis belongs to 10198 chinchillas, recorded between the years 1990 and 2011, in a comercial breeding population kept in Pirque, in the Metropolitan Region. The analysis revealed that there is a positive relationship between the body weight at birth (PN), and the body weight at sacrifice (PS) of the animals, with fur price. However, body weight at weaning does not affect fur price. The study also demonstrated that there is a significant difference between fur prices that come from animals that presented fur-chewing, in comparison to those that come from chinchillas that did not show the behavior. In adittion, the study showed that PN, PD, PS and fur-chewing are traits that present significant genetic variation, with estimates of heritability of 0.70, 0.56, 0.29, y 0.16, respectively, being the price of furs the only analysed trait that did not show significant genetic variation
