Ciudad y desarrollo: imaginario empresarial y forestal en Concepción, Chile

Abstract

Las principales empresas forestales en Chile poseen sus enclaves de gestión en la Región del Biobío. Desde allí, despliegan programas y diseñan acciones que ponen de manifiesto las convicciones actuales del mundo empresarial respecto del territorio y sus usos. Como objetivo, proponemos examinar aquí el modo en que los imaginarios empresariales de la ciudad capitalista se instalan y expanden favoreciendo un motor ideológico y cultural propio del actual capitalismo multinacional. Desde una metodología etnográfica complementada con datos y alcances de la geografía, se propone la descripción de este imaginario del espacio urbano desarrollado, a partir de referentes operativos, políticos e históricos. Los resultados obtenidos refuerzan la interpretación de las transformaciones de la ciudad al compás de la evolución del capitalismo organizado en el territorio por la expansión de la industria forestal.

The main forestry companies in Chile have their management hubs in the Biobio region. From there, they deploy programs and design actions that make evident the current convictions of the business world regarding the territory and its uses. We propose as an objective to examine the way in which the entrepreneurial imaginaries of the capitalist city are installed and expanded here, favoring an ideological and cultural motor of the current multinational capitalism. Based on an ethnographic methodology complemented with the data and scope of geography, we propose to describe this imaginary of the developed urban space, based on operational, political, and historical references. The results obtained reinforce the interpretation of the city transformations to the rhythm of the evolution of organized capitalism in the territory, due to the expansion of the forest industry.
