Por una historiografía de las colaboraciones: la arquitectura como empresa colectiva

Abstract

En el ámbito de los estudios históricos sobre la arquitectura chilena, el afianzamiento de las herramientas historiográficas de periodización y caracterización estilística tradicional, materializadas en trabajos mayoritariamente monográficos sobre obras y movimientos, ha estado asociado al predominio de la noción de autoría individual, donde la figura del arquitecto aparece frecuentemente estudiada solo en función de datos biográficos. La arquitectura es escasamente presentada como una práctica colectiva en la cual participan agentes diversos. Examinando algunos aspectos de la historiografía local, y en particular aquella sobre la arquitectura colonial, intentaremos aquí abogar por el interés de pensar la arquitectura desde una valorización de lo comunitario.

In the field of historical studies about Chilean architecture, the consolidation of historiographical tools of traditional stylistic periodization and characterization –basically materialized in monographs on works and movements– has been associated to the predominance of the notion of individual authorship, where the figure of the architect appears frequently studied only related to his/her biographical data. Architecture is seldom presented as a collective practice where diverse agents take part. By discussing some aspects of local historiography, and particularly the one on colonial architecture, we will attempt to advocate for the interest of thinking architecture from the viewpoint of valuing community.
