La memoria del maritorio : monumento flotante que conmemora y mitiga los daños socioambientales generados por la sobreexplotación de recursos naturales en el maritorio chilote

Abstract

El impacto ambiental de la industria acuícola ha afectado al ecosistema marino de Chiloé reduciendo a las especies en cantidad y tamaño la recolección y pesca artesanal también se han visto afectadas, actividades que son clave en la cultura chilota y su relación con el maritorio por lo que es necesario protegerlas. El presente proyecto busca a través de un Monumento Flotante situado en el mar generar un espacio de contemplación y reflexión entorno a nuestra relación con los recursos naturales. La Memoria del Maritorio se ve representada por la escultura en madera de Ciprés de una cola de Ballena Azul que hace alusión a importancia de la biodiversidad marina, situada sobre una embarcación construida bajo el oficio ancestral de la Carpintería de Ribera chilota, ambos intervenidos con malla de pescador proveniente de la industria acuícola. Bajo este monumento un Arrecife Artificial restaura el ecosistema marino por medio de la biomitigación para recuperar la abundancia de especies marinas característica del archipiélago. La Ballena Azul es una especie clave en los ecosistemas marinos y debido a su caza estuvo cerca de ser exterminada y aún se encuentra en peligro de extinción. La embarcación ofrece un espacio flotante recorrible donde es posible contemplar el maritorio y sus actores, la dimensión de una Ballena Azul y la técnica constructiva de la Carpintería de Ribera. La malla de pescador otorga propiedades antideslizantes al piso mientras que en el exterior del barco será biocolonizada por algas y moluscos además de fomentar el desarrollo de líquenes sobre la escultura de ballena, comunicando la función biomitigadora del monumento.

The environmental impact of the aquaculture industry at Chiloé has affected the marine ecosystem, reducing the number and size of the species, the artisanal fishing and collection have also been affected, activities that are key in the Chiloé culture and its relationship with the seascape, for which reason they need to be protected. The present project seeks through a Floating Monument located in the sea to generate a space of contemplation and reflection around our relationship with natural resources. The Memory of the Maritory is represented by the wooden sculpture of a Blue Whale tail that alludes to the importance of marine biodiversity on a boat built under the ancestral trade of the Ribera Carpentry, both intervened with fish mesh from the aquaculture industry. Under this monument, an Artificial Reef restores the marine ecosystem through biomitigation to recover the abundance of marine species characteristic of the archipelago. The Blue Whale is a key species in marine ecosystems and due to its hunting it was close to being exterminated and is still in danger. The boat offers a floating space where it is possible to contemplate the sea, the size of a Blue Whale and the construction techniques of Ribera Carpentry. The fisherman's mesh fulfills the function of granting non-slip properties to the floor while on the outside of the boat it will be biocolonized by algae and molluscs, on the whale it will encourage the development of lichens, communicating the biomitigating function of the monument.
