El cuerpo como expresión de paisaje cultural : estudio sobre la incidencia del contexto territorial en el uso de la pintura corporal por el pueblo originario Selk’nam

Abstract

Para el pueblo originario Selk’nam, Tierra del Fuego, su entorno natural, y sus repertorios culturales, son componentes fundamentales de su identidad cultural. Puesto a que, esta se define a partir del vínculo que poseen con la naturaleza. Dentro de sus repertorios culturales se encuentra la pintura corporal, la cual emplea el cuerpo como un medio para la expresión, saciando su necesidad natural de autoreconocimiento e interpretación. Si bien, diversas fuentes aseveran que la pintura corporal es uno de sus sustentos de distinción respecto a los otros. No se afirma que aparte de manifestar su identidad cultural en sí, pueda expresar su paisaje cultural. De modo que, la presente investigación propone observar y analizar la pintura corporal del pueblo originario Selk’nam, a través de un estudio iconológico. Con la finalidad de identificar el uso de referentes naturales que aludan al territorio fueguino, y presenten una atribución simbólica numinosa. Poniendo en valor a dicho pueblo originario, y su conexión sagrada con su contexto territorial.

For the Selk’nam indigenous people, Tierra del Fuego, its natural environment, and its cultural repertoires, are fundamental components of their cultural identity. Since, this is defined from the link they have with nature. Within their cultural repertoires is body painting, which uses the body as a means of expression, satisfying its natural need for self-recognition and interpretation. Although, various sources assert that body painting is one of their means of distinction from others. It is not stated that aside from manifesting the cultural identity in itself, it can express its cultural landscape. So, this research proposes to observe and analyze the body painting of the Selk’nam native people, through an iconological study. With the purpose of identifying the use of natural references that allude to the Fuegian territory, and present a numinous symbolic attribution. Valuing said indigenous people, and their sacred connection with their territorial context.
