Censo de mascotas en el casco histórico urbano de la comuna de el monte: una mirada desde la ley 21.020 de tenencia responsable

Abstract

Con el fin de caracterizar demográficamente poblaciones de perros y gatos, como también cuantificar otras poblaciones animales de las viviendas del casco histórico urbano de la comuna de El Monte, se realizó un censo vía telefónica entre los meses de enero y marzo del 2021. La base de datos utilizada corresponde a personas inscritas voluntariamente vía formulario online, números telefónicos de tutores que ocupan el servicio Médico Veterinario Municipal y personas del programa “Quiero mi Barrio”. La encuesta utilizada posee 11 ítems, correspondiente a 39 preguntas, tanto de selección múltiple, tablas y preguntas abiertas. Se obtuvo información de 216 viviendas, 460 perros, 399 gatos, 546 individuos correspondientes a otras poblaciones animales y 799 integrantes dentro de los núcleos familiares. Dentro de los resultados más destacados, se obtuvo: la mayoría de las viviendas son casas, cuya propiedad es predominantemente propia y su uso predominante es familiar; la mayoría de las viviendas tiene mascotas o animales de compañía, siendo la más popular el perro; el servicio veterinario de preferencia es el particular y al momento de esterilizar, el municipal; se obtuvo un promedio de 2,1 perros y 1,5 gatos por vivienda; la razón de masculinidad es de 0,9 en perros y 0,66 en gatos; la razón humano/perro es de 1,7:1 y humano/gato de 2,4:1; la mayoría de los perros y gatos son mestizos; la mayoría de los perros tienen microchip, pero la minoría posee su licencia emitida, mientras que en gatos ambos criterios están bajos; la vacunación antirrábica al día está presente en la mayoría de los perros, a diferencia de lo que sucede en gatos; en un cuarto de los hogares ha existido emigración de perros o gatos; en casi la mitad de las viviendas hubo fallecimiento de perros o gatos; en un cuarto de las vivienda hubo hembras que parieron; casi tres cuartos de las viviendas tuvo plagas en el patio y poco más de un cuarto dentro de ella; la mayoría indica que desparasita externamente a sus mascotas periódicamente; se identificaron 29 personas mordidas por perros; la mayoría de los dueños posee educación media completa; y el ingreso promedio mensual del núcleo familiar más común es entre $300.000 y $600.000

In order to demographically characterize the dog and cat populations, as well as to quantify other animal populations in the homes of the historic urban center of the municipality of El Monte, a census was conducted between January and March 2021. The database used corresponds to people voluntarily registered via online form, telephone numbers of tutors that occupy the Municipal Veterinary Medical Service and people from the "Quiero mi Barrio" program. The survey used has 11 items, corresponding to 39 questions, including multiple choice questions, tables and open questions. Information was obtained from 216 households, 460 dogs, 399 cats, 546 other animal populations and 799 members within the family nuclei. Among the most outstanding results, the following were obtained: most of the dwellings are houses, which are predominantly owned and their predominant use is family; most of the dwellings have pets or companion animals, the most popular being the dog; the veterinary service of preference is private and at the time of sterilization, the municipal; an average of 2.1 dogs and 1.5 for cats per dwelling was obtained; the masculinity ratio is 0.9 for dogs and 0.66 for cats; the human/dog ratio is 1.7:1 and human/cat is 2.4:1; most dogs and cats are mongrels; most dogs are microchipped, but a minority have their license issued, while in cats both criteria are low; up-to-date rabies vaccination is present in most dogs, unlike in cats; in a quarter of the households there has been emigration of dogs or cats; in almost half of the homes there were deaths of dogs or cats; in a quarter of the homes there were females that gave birth; almost three quarters of the homes had pests in the yard and a little more than a quarter indoors; the majority indicated that they periodically deparasitize their pets externally; 29 people were identified as having been bitten by dogs; the majority of the owners have completed secondary education; and the most common average monthly household income is between $300.000 y $600.000
