Estudio descriptivo y comparativo de las atenciones realizadas a gatos domésticos en un centro veterinario de atención primaria

Abstract

Con el objetivo de analizar la variación de las atenciones realizadas a gatos domésticos en un centro veterinario de atención primaria, se revisaron las fichas clínicas de gatos atendidos en el periodo 2015-2016, describiéndose su distribución según estado reproductivo, raza, sexo, edad, número de atenciones, tipo de atención, sistema afectado y causa de enfermedad. Algunas variables se compararon con los resultados de un estudio previo, que describió las atenciones de este centro durante el periodo 2005-2006. Entre ambos periodos la cantidad de gatos atendidos aumentó un 6,6%, alcanzando el 22,9%. La consulta general (75,6%) predominó sobre la preventiva (24,4%), la que se incrementó un 9,6%. Predominaron los gatitos (43,1%), aunque su proporción disminuyó un 11,6%. Los seniles (8,9%) fueron los más escasos, aunque su proporción aumentó un 6,5%. El 50,8% correspondió a hembras y el 45,3% a machos. El 51,0% perteneció a pacientes enteros, mientras que el 41,4% estaba gonadectomizado. La raza preponderante fue Doméstico de pelo corto (63,2%). Los principales sistemas afectados fueron: digestivo (22,9%), tegumentario (18,5%), respiratorio (14,7%) y musculoesquelético (10,3%), observándose un aumento del 6,8% para los sistemas digestivo y tegumentario, y una disminución de la proporción de los sistemas respiratorio y musculoesquelético de un 3,4 y 5,1%, respectivamente. Las principales causas de enfermedad fueron: infecciosa (31,7%), traumática (26,2%) y causa no determinada (13,1%). Para ambos periodos, la causa infecciosa fue la más prevalente, aunque se redujo un 9,2%; mientras que la causa traumática se incrementó un 12%.

With the objective of analyze the variation of the attentions made to domestic cats in a primary care veterinary center, the clinical records of cats treated in the 2015-2016 period were reviewed, describing their distribution according to reproductive status, race, sex, age, number of attentions, type of attention, system affected and cause of disease. Some variables were compared with the results of a previous study, which described the attentions of this center during the 2005-2006 period. Between both periods, the number of cats attended increased by 6.6%, reaching 22.9%. The general consultation (75.6%) predominated over the preventive (24.4%), which increased by 9.6%. Kittens (43.1%) predominated in both studies, although their proportion decreased by 11.6%. The senile (8.9%) were the scarcest, although their proportion increased by 6.5%. 50.8% corresponded to females and 45.3% to males. 50.1% belonged to non-gonadectomized patients, while 41.4% were gonadecomized. The preponderant breed was domestic short hair (63.2%). The main affected systems were: digestive (22.9%), integumentary (18.5%), respiratory (14.7%) and musculoskeletal (10.3%), observing an increase of 6.8% for the digestive and integumentary systems, and a decrease in the proportion of the respiratory and musculoskeletal systems of 3.4 and 5.1%, respectively. The most frequently causes of disease were: infectious (31.7%), traumatic (26.2%) and undetermined cause (13.1%). For both periods, the infectious cause was the most prevalent, although it was reduced by 9.2% while the traumatic cause increased by 12%.
