Abstract
During Boric's first year in government, this agenda has remained nothing but words, forming part of his discourse as a kind of generic inspiration for what the government does, without turning this into specific public policies. The subsequent failure of the Constitutional Convention, whose draft was rejected, has been resolved in the same way. The facts lead to the conclusion that Boric's government – whether by inclination or because of reality or a conviction adopted late in the day – will not radically change the path that Chile has been following over last three decades. Even so, the struggle for hegemony that is bound to occur within the left forces that support him will be decisive. In the last three decades, the left's policy of alliances has consisted of drawing the centre towards them – represented by the Party for Democracy and the Christian Democratic party, both parties with social democratic tendencies – and isolating or subordinating the Communist party.
