Introduction: The prevalence of chronic diseases is very high in almost every country, therefore, preventive strategies should be implemented early on. In Chile, one program that has targeted chronic diseases is the Ministry of Health´s Programa Vida Sana (PVS) which has been implemented since 2011. Its main objective is to prevent cardiovascular risk factors in overweight subjects. Objective: For this study, the objective is to determine the effect of PVS 2013 on the nutritional status (BMI, BMIZ, WC) and metabolic parameters (TC, HDL, TC / HDL, TG, GA, SBP, DBP) in participants nationwide, once the intervention ended, which in 2013, was four months. Method: Cohort study with analysis of secondary data from PVS 2013. The intervention included a total of 9 individual and group nutritional consultations (NUT), and at least two weekly sessions of physical activity (SAF) ideally three, during the four months of the program. It also considered baseline measurements and after fourth months, follow-up at the sixth, ninth and twelfth month. The sample analyzed in this study included 8,118 subjects who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data was checked for normality and variables categorized before the statistical analysis. This considered the description of variables with mean, standard deviation, absolute and relative frequencies; and Student's t test to analyze the change in paired samples. Also, test of Symmetry to determine the change in proportions, Multiple Linear Regression to determine the effect of NUT and / or SAF and ANOVA and Bonferroni to assess adherence associated with the degree of compliance with the intervention program on the nutritional status. The analyses were performed with STATA 13.0 computer software. A p value of <0.05 and a confidence interval of 95% was considered statistically significant. Results: The ages of participants ranged from 6 to 45 years; they were categorized into the following age groups: 6-9 years (n = 1,870) 10-18 years (n = 3,267) and 19-45 years ( n = 2981). More than 50% of them were female subjects. After four month, attendance to NUT fluctuated between 3.7 and 3.9 visits and for SAF, between 26,6 and 28,5 for the different age groups. . In all age and gender groups, significant decreases in mean BMI (Δ 0.7-1.3), BMIZ (Δ 0.2-0.4) and WC (Δ 1.2-4, 5) as well as the prevalence of obesity (BMI and BMI Z decreased between 12-22% and WC between 0.8 and 12.3%). On average, metabolic parameters, showed significant improvements in all age group except in GA in the group of 6-9 years (p = 0.07) and the prevalence of alterations, except HDL in the group of 6- 9 years (p = 0.35) and 10 to 18 years (p = 0.84) and TG (p = 0.34) and DBP (p = 0.23) in the 6-9 y old group. . Regarding adherence, increased participation in SAF influenced significantly (p <0.05) on BMI in the 10-18 and 19-45 groups years, BMI Z in the group 10-18 years and WC in all groups, while NUT influenced BMI, BMIZ and WC (p <0.05) in all groups. Finally, the degree of compliance with the intervention was effective in decreasing BMI (p <0.05) in the 10-18 y old group and both BMI (p <0.05) and WC (p <0.05) in of 19-45 y old group. Conclusion: PVS 2013 was an effective intervention to improve the nutritional status and metabolic parameters in overweight participants, especially among the 10-45 y olds and females....
