Fifteen thoroughbred racing horses were evaluated for plasma concentrations of glucose and cortisol, and blood neutrophil:lymphocyte (N:L) ratio. According to their training work, they were separated into three groups of five animals each: control group (GI), 1000m gallop training group (GII) and competitive work group (GIII). Blood samples were obtained from jugular vein at resting (T0) and 2 hours after wards (T1). Plasma glucose and cortisol, and total leukocyte counts were expressed as mean and SD. Group and time effect variations and group-time interactions were determined by ANOVA with 95% confidence interval and p≤ 0.05 significance level. The intensity of this excercise was enough for generate a notable glycemia increase on GII and GIII on T1; only GIII was significantly greater than GI on T1. The plasma cortisol concentration inside the group presents a significant decrease for T1 of GII, in relation to their T0. About the N:L ratio, values between groups on T0 demonstrate that GII was significantly greater than other groups; if comparing values inside the group the results shown a significant decrease on GII. The group that presents greater cortisol basal concentration and N:L ratio is GII, which precisely has done an intermediate work training when comparing with GIII. In addition, having a greater decrease of plasma cortisol and N:L ratio on T1 respect T0 shows that intensity of excercise which was subjected was inferior than GIII excercise. The results described allow conclude that the answer of organism to physic excercise have an direct relation with the kind of job which is subjected the animal and their training....

Regenerative medicine is based on the use of stem cells for therapeutic purposes, promoting the stimulation of the body's own repair mechanisms to functionally heal tissues or organs. Some of the recent approaches within the field consist of the use of stem cell secretion products; a set of bioactive factors with therapeutic properties which is called secretome or conditioned medium. The combined effect of these factors has been shown to cause regulation of various cellular processes, including tissue repair and angiogenesis. Psoriasis vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory disease of an autoimmune nature and of multifactorial origin, characterized by causing distinctive skin lesions in the form of thick, red, and scaly plaques, together with a highly dysregulated angiogenic process. The first line of treatment for this disease corresponds to topical agents, whose application is bothersome for patients and also generates adverse side effects such as itching, burning, irritation, thinning and/or discoloration of the skin. Therefore, in this title seminar it was decided to evaluate the therapeutic effect of the conditioned medium of mesenchymal stem cells derived from Wharton's gelatin in psoriasiform lesions. For this, a biotechnological solution was developed, combining the secretome of these cells in a biopolymer based on hyaluronic acid (HA hWJCM), first validating that this prototype maintained the angiogenic properties characteristic of the secretome in vivo. Next, the therapeutic potential was evaluated in a murine model with psoriasiform like dermatitis using different treatment protocols, including secretome alone (hWJCM) or polymer alone (HA Ctrl). After completing the treatment with the active biopolymer, it was observed that, unlike untreated mice presenting classic manifestations of the disease and a high psoriasis area severity index (PASI), the treatment with HA hWJCM resulted in a significant improvement (76.47%) of PASI index. When visualizing the back skin of the different experimental conditions, it was possible to see a drastic reduction in the number of total vessels with HA hWJCM compared to individuals with psoriasiform like dermatitis, being similar in terms of number and appearance to the control condition. A histological analysis of the skin showed differences in the thickness of the epidermis, being of greater thickness for untreated sick animals, consistent with that reported in the literature. In contrast, the epidermal thickness of hWJCM and HA hWJCM was found to be closer to the control condition. Interestingly, once the treatment of psoriasiform like dermatitis started, mice administered with HA hWJCM gained weight and on the last day of treatment, these individuals had practically a total recovery of their body weight (Δ = -2.51%) followed by hWJCM treated mice (Δ = -6.47%). Those mice treated with HA Ctrl decreased their weight to a level close to that of diseased mice (Δ = -9.84% and -12.11% respectively), while control mice kept their weight approximately constant (Δ = -0.99%). The results show that topical treatment of the disease with HA hWJCM reduces the PASI index in addition to the discomfort associated with the disease and, therefore, causes general well-being in the animal, representing an effective therapeutic solution....

By signing the 2030 agreement in 2015, Chile makes the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals a responsibility for all the government institutions and its programs. Prodesal is one of the programs with the largest number of Indap users and, therefore, gives Indap a great opportunity to contribute to the achievement of the SDG goals through the interventions carried out by this program. This study analysed the Exempt Resolution 180925, which approves the Technical Standards and Operating Procedures of Prodesal, to establish a relationship between Indap’s Prodesal and the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. It was evaluated which objectives are directly related to the program, with the purpose of suggesting adjustments to the regulations that govern a Prodesal and propose mechanisms that allow monitoring the fulfillment of each of the goals of the established SDGs. This allowed the delivery of information for the measurement of indicators at the national level. The results showed that the Zero Hunger, Clean Water and Reduced Inequalities objectives present indicators that are directly related to Prodesal. In addition, the presence of indicators of the No Poverty and Health and Well-being objectives stand out, those that are not within the SDGs assigned to Indap but are relevant for the program due to the socioeconomic characteristics of its users. All these indicators can be incorporated into the program regulations with measurement protocols, which will allow them to be quantified and provide information at the national level to evaluate the progress of the SDG targets.
