This article reports the result of the study carried out, with the aim ofapproaching the understanding of the changes that have arisen in Chile, in the last 30 years, regarding the advancement of technological tools that are associated with the architect's work. The objective is to identify the consequences and implications -favorable and unfavorable- that have meant for the architect, adapting to the changes in the tools that have appeared over time and that have produced profound transformations in the working methods and in the systems of construction. relationships between teams of professionals. This research was carried out from the preparation of interviews with a diverse group of Chilean architectural offices, which in principle met a specific profile, determined by the particular experience of having carried out projects in pencil, in CAD and in BIM. Based on their comments and opinions, the themes that were most recurrent were identified, in order to configure a general assessment panorama, regarding the advantages and disadvantages associated with the implementation of technological tools. These experiences were later contrasted with similar texts and videos, which reflect the international experience. It is evident that the growing development of BIM in Chile has been driven mainly from the dissemination of the benefits that this technology can offer for the interests of the State (BIM Plan) and large investors (CChC); Comparatively, from the perspective of the end user, who happen to be the consulting teams of professionals in general, success stories are often disclosed (as part of the developers' marketing strategies), but little is said from the perspective of the actual valuation of the cases that are not particularly successful and that constitute the majority. Therefore, this research is understood as a preliminary study, the objective of which is to help identify topics of professional interest, which allow to open the conversation and install the point of view of architects, as end users of BIM technology, so that these topics participate more actively in the conversation and general scope, related to the implementation of BIM in Chile. From the analysis it was obtained that, among the architectural offices consulted, it has been generally difficult to acquire a certain “BIM culture”, due to various problems that have not yet been resolved and whose severity is perceived in a different way; However, despite the limitations that are identified in these softwares and problems associated with their use, the idea of not subscribing to this technology and to any line of innovation in general seems illogical or unthinkable, which is why there is a high interest in which these changes consider and protect the interests of the architects....

In the field of historical studies about Chilean architecture, the consolidation of historiographical tools of traditional stylistic periodization and characterization –basically materialized in monographs on works and movements– has been associated to the predominance of the notion of individual authorship, where the figure of the architect appears frequently studied only related to his/her biographical data. Architecture is seldom presented as a collective practice where diverse agents take part. By discussing some aspects of local historiography, and particularly the one on colonial architecture, we will attempt to advocate for the interest of thinking architecture from the viewpoint of valuing community....
