Towards the end of the 1920s and the mid-1930s, the Chilean working class rose up against the government with a series of social demands, which had a direct impact on the implementation of labor reforms. One of the main reforms was reflected in the regulation of the working day, providing greater availability of free time for workers, an aspect that did not exist until before this period. From this fact, the concern arises on the part of the government to address in a positive way this new availability of free time in the population, a space of time that led to a series of problems in terms of education, health and leisure, previously invisible by the long hours of work. The discipline of architecture played a fundamental role in responding to these concerns of the government, contributing to the design and construction of a series of complexes with leisure facilities, such as “Parque de Reposo y Cultura” in Parque Cousiño. (current O’Higgins Park in Santiago) and the currently nonexistent “Hogar Hipódromo Chile”, located on the premises of the current Hipódromo de Santiago. The equipment for leisure in Santiago was not able to be replicated in other regions of the country as expected. This generated the concern of how to provide similar spaces that would allow covering the use of free time in a positive way for the population. The architectural response to this void was associated with the use of different cinemas and theaters built throughout the territory, representing a characteristic architecture for the leisure of all social classes, without distinction. The city of Linares is an example of this, where the availability of free time of its population was the starting point for the creation of a cultural matrix associated with leisure and entertainment. The theater built from these actions, currently constitutes a unique type of architecture in the area, where the adequate recognition of its architectural and social values, will allow to account for its heritage characteristics, in order to propose a definitive protection for the building based on these attributes....
