The present study explored the effects that a mindfulness and self-compassion training had in women with anxiety symptoms that lived in a psychosocial vulnerability context. This study was made on 3 steps. On the first step it was made a theoretical and empirical review of researches associated with mindfulness and self-compassion, considering the roots and origins of the concepts, and also a review of existing research with clinical and non-clinical population. This step contributes to find the relevance of developing an intervention on a clinical context. On a second step a self-compassion scale was translated to Spanish and some evidence was found towards validating the scale on a Chilean university population. Finally, on a third step, a mindfulness and self-compassion training was implemented on Pudahuel’s Mental Health Center, with 22 women from 18 to 76 years old that showed anxiety symptoms. It was developed a mixed study (quantitative and qualitative) evaluating the effects of the training on mindfulness, self-compassion, symptoms reduction (anxiety, depression, stress and negative affects) and on well-being (psychological well-being, subjective happiness and positive affects). These variables were measured before the training, after the training and 6 months after the training ended. On this study the intervention group was compared with 2 control groups (a group that received psychotherapy and a waiting list group). Also a qualitative study was made to observe how the training influenced on the way the participants relate to themselves. For this, some semi-structured interviews and a focal group were made after the training and some months later. In general terms, both results (qualitative and quantitative) showed agreement. On one side, statistically significant results were found on mindfulness and self-compassion, comparing the training participants with the control groups. Also it was observed an statistically significant reduce on anxiety, depression, stress and negative affects and an increment on levels of psychological well-being, subjective happiness and positive affects on the participants of the intervention group. On the other side, qualitative results showed how relevant was to establish a more kind perception and way to relate to themselves. This kindly way to relate to themselves contributes to live more connected with themselves, with others and on daily life, also it was an applied and valuable strategy to manage difficult times....

Tratamientos Basados en Mindfulness en la Población Infanto-Juvenil con Sintomatología Ansiosa. Una Revisión Sistemática.
(Universidad de la República, Uruguay, 2020)
The aim of this study is to explore the effects of treatments based on Mindfulness in childhood and adolescent population with anxious symptomatology and/or anxiety disorder through a systematic review of the available literature in various databases between January 2007 to March 2017. In the search we found a significant increase in publications that address the subject of Mindfulness. However, in the child and adolescent population with anxious symptomatology and/or anxiety disorder, a number of reduced investigations were found. Finding two systematic reviews, four narrative reviews and five clinical trials. The small number of publications on this subject makes it difficult to measure the effect on Mindfulness treatment in this population with anxious symptomatology and/or anxiety disorder. More controlled clinical trials are required in order to establish its relevance as a therapeutic tool for the reduction of anxiety with the child and adolescent population....

Dog Separation Anxiety (DSA) is a common behavioral disorder and well characterized in several countries, and in still scarcely known in Chile by owners and veterinarians. The aim of this study was to describe the DSA syndrome in patients diagnosed with this disorder, encompassing general characteristics, physical and social environment, more frequent clinical and behavioral manifestations, including the severity of the syndrome. Out of a total of 82 medical records analyzed, 54.9% were adults, mostly males (52.4%). The predominant reproductive status was intact (78%) in both males and females. Patients were mostly adopted from private home, with the most frequent adoption period being socialization. The main reason for adoption was company and the most common housing department (67.1%), being mostly families without children or other pets. The most observed clinical signs were anorexia (37.8%), trembling (32.9%) and panting (29.3%), while the prevailing behavioral signs were excessive vocalization (82.9%), destructiveness (65.9%) and elimination (36.6%) , appearing alone or in combination. 96.3% of patients enviromental enrichment was available, mostly occupational. Almost all patients had overattachment (98.8%) and effusiveness (95.1%). Of the group of patients evaluated (n = 28) according to DSA severity scale developed by Parthasarathy and Crowell-Davis (2006), 3.6% had mild DSA, 28.6% moderate, 21.4% marked, and 46.4% severe. The most significant differences in symptoms severity, occurred in the characteristics of housing type, place of adoption and eating habits, and the most frequently present in the most serious sign was destructiveness (p= 0.0186). This significant percentage of patients with severe symptoms, combined with the DSA corresponds to the second most common behavioral disorder in dogs and it can cause discomfort to the community, making necessary to continue the study of this disease, to obtain useful information that can help in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of this disorder, improving the levels of welfare of our patients and encouraging responsible ownership....
