In recent decades, Titanium dioxide (TiO2) has become one of the most studied materials by the scientific community, due to its physical and chemical properties, which make this material a potential catalyst for use in catalysis photochemical reactions. To our knowledge, one of the promising practical applications in the decomposition of organic compounds or polluting dye such as methylene blue is the use of this semiconductor as a solid state photoactive material to remediate contaminated water. The purpose of the next research is to synthesize nanostructured TiO2 materials from a solid-state method, using as precursors, (Cp2TiCl2)•(Chitosan) (I), (Cp2TiCl2)•(PS-co-4-PVP) (II), (TiOSO4)•(Chitosan) (III), (TiOSO4)•(PS-co-4-PVP) (IV), (TiO(acac)2)•(Chitosan) (V), y (TiO(acac)2)•(PS-co-4-PVP) (VI). These macromolecular complexes are formed by reaction of the titanium compound with a polymer which acts as a template/stabilizer in dichloromethane (CH2Cl2), which will be characterized by Infrared Spectroscopy (IR), solid state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy of Carbon 13 (RMN-13C), UV-Visible Spectroscopy (UV-Vis), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA / DTA) and Raman Spectroscopy. The pyrolysis of these precursors at different temperatures at 500 ° C, 600 ° C, 700 ° C and 800 ° C leads to the formation of nanostructured TiO2 with a single crystalline phase, either anatase or rutile, however, there are cases in which gets a mixture of them. The TiO2 nanostructures were characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Electron Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), to determine the morphology and average size that is obtained from this method of synthesis, establishing the important role played by the nature of the precursor. The obtained TiO2 nanostructures have different morphologies, for example; Porous surfaces in the form of microfibers, granular surfaces and laminar structures. In this diversity of forms, the microfibers formed by fused TiO2 nanoparticles stand out, with average diameters reaching 7 nm in one of the systems. The morphology, crystalline phase and size of these TiO2 nanostructures are the main factors that determine the photocatalytic performance, therefore, one of the objects of study that addressed this research work was the order of importance that each of these factors in the photocatalytic activity of TiO2. In order to correlate its influence following the order morphology > size > crystalline phase. To carry out this study, the twenty-four materials under UV-Vis illumination are evaluated to quantify the degree of methylene blue discoloration in an aqueous solution. The functional material that shows a higher photocatalytic efficiency, are the nanoparticles of TiO2 with anatase phase, obtained from the precursor (TiOSO4)•(Chitosan) (III) pyrolyzed at 800 ° C, degrading 87% in just 25 minutes, achieving a better performance than the commercially used material (Degussa P25)...
