Skew-Kappa distribution functions & whistler heat flux instability in the solar wind: the Core-Strahlo model
(Universidad de Chile, 2023)
Electron velocity distribution functions (eVDFs) in the solar wind exhibit ener getic tails and magnetic field-aligned skewness, attributed to secondary populations
such as the halo and strahl. Temperature anisotropy is also a commonly observed
suprathermal feature. Both skewness and anisotropy can provide energy for the
excitation of electromagnetic perturbations through the whistler heat flux instabil ity (WHFI) and the whistler-cyclotron instability, potentially altering the plasma
state through wave-particle interactions. The WHFI, in particular, is believed to
play a crucial role in regulating electron heat flux in the solar wind. In this work,
we introduce a novel approach to model the solar wind eVDF: the Core-Strahlo
(CS) model. This representation combines a bi-Maxwellian core and a suprather mal strahlo, modeled by a skew-Kappa distribution and representing the halo and
strahl electrons using a unified description. We demonstrate that the CS model ef fectively reproduces key characteristics of the solar wind eVDFs, with the advantage
of controlling skewness through a single parameter, δ. Using linear kinetic theory
and considering small skewness, we conduct a comprehensive stability analysis of the
parallel-propagating whistler mode and establish stability threshold conditions for
comparison with observational data.
We show that plasma states with distinct WHFI stability levels may exhibit iden tical electron heat flux values, q∥e. Therefore, systems with high q∥e values can be stable enough, so that the WHFI may not be able to effectively modify electron heat
flux values through wave-particle interactions. Consequently, skewness (a kinetic
property of the eVDF) emerges as a better indicator of instability compared to the
heat flux parameter (a plasma macroscopic quantity). Our study further investigates
anisotropic cases, revealing that the strahlo anisotropy is a more efficient source of
free energy for destabilizing the whistler mode compared to field-aligned skewness.
This suggests a greater role of anisotropic suprathermal populations in processes
governed by wave-particle interactions. We hope this study will motivate the devel opment of theoretical works exploring the dynamics of the halo and strahl using a
unified description. This approach could be especially valuable for addressing the
interaction between these populations as they move away from the Sun. Lastly, we
expect our results to find validation through electron measurements obtained from
current and upcoming solar wind missions...

Severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI) remains prevalent in the young adult popula-tion. Indeed, far from descending, the incidence of sTBI remains high. One of the key bases oftreatment is to avoid, detect and correct secondary injuries of systemic origin, which aggra-vate the primary lesion. Much of this can be achieved by maintaining an adequate physiologicalmicroenvironment allowing recovery of the damaged brain tissue. General care measures arenonspecific actions designed to meet that objective. The available guidelines on the manage-ment of sTBI have not included the topics contemplated in this consensus. In this regard, agroup of members of the Latin American Brain Injury Consortium (LABIC), involved in the diffe-rent aspects of the acute management of sTBI (neurosurgeons, intensivists, anesthesiologists, neurologists, nurses and physiotherapists) were gathered. An exhaustive literature search wasmade of selected topics in the LILACS, PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Cochrane Controlled Regis-ter of Trials and Web of Science databases. To establish recommendations or suggestions withtheir respective strength or weakness, the GRADE methodology (Grading of Recommendations,Assessment, Development and Evaluation) was applied. Additionally, certain recommendations(included in complementary material) were not assessed by GRADE, because they constitute aset of therapeutic actions of effective compliance, in which it was not possible to apply thesaid methodology. Thirty-two recommendations were established, 16 strong and 16 weak, withtheir respective levels of evidence. This consensus attempts to standardize and establish basicgeneral care measures in this particular patient population....

Habilidades de lectura de jóvenes al término de la secundaria: ¿qué se predice para su lectura en contextos universitarios?
(Universidad de Almería, 2020)

This paper presents results and conclusions derived from a study conducted on a corpus of data from the standardized test used in Chile to select students who want to access college. This test is called the University Selection Test-Language. The data correspond to eight applications, period 2005 to 2012. The corpus is composed of three elements: a group of stimulus texts (expository and argumentative, whose discursive characteristics allow them to be assimilated to academic texts), the items associated with each text, plus the statisticians (difficulty and omission) that account for how many students answered the key and how many omitted. The analysis of this information allows for the verification that the graduates of secondary education present a low level of reading comprehension, especially in the processing of the textual surface to obtain implicit information, such as: interpretation of the discursive perspective adopted by the issuer in the development of the topic; recognition of the internal organization in an expository text or identification of the thesis that arises in an argumentative text. These results are consistent with other research that shows difficulties in reading comprehensively for young people who have finished their secondary education....
