The present thesis studied a small group of novice faculty members of Universidad De Chile´s nursing department in their three first years of educational practice, with the aim of understand the experiences they face in their initiation to the teaching practice. Methodologically it was addressed from a qualitative perspective, with a micro-ethnographic approach. The data was collected through participant observation technique and in deep interviews. The selection on participants was intended. Later on data analysis was done, along with information reduction, discussion and reflection, which originated the conclusions of the present work. The results showed that novice teachers initiate in a natural and individual way, and they perceive the initiation process like positive. Nevertheless, the field work unveiled insecurity feelings, anxiety and anguish typical of that period. With respect to the facts who interfere and/or hinder the educational practice are the lack of pedagogical knowledge, poor proficiency in the teaching language, difficults in handling situations derived from teaching management, lack of formal training and trouble in peer relationships in the new work environment. Like compensatory strategies teachers use the intuition, improvisation, and replicate their own learning experiences in the teaching that they taught. Among the factors that facilitate the teaching initiation, are the professional experience in nursing, a formal training in teaching, the preference for teaching and the personal characteristics that the novice teacher own....

Professional nurses are able to work in different contexts which determine the necessity of applying their own knowledge of caring and knowledge from other disci plines. This body of knowing, described by Bárbara Carper in the ´70, is organized through patterns that allow the thinking of practical phenomenon, and building knowledge of common interest to nurses. This study considered four patterns of knowing in nursing described by this author: Empirical, Personal, Ethical, and Aes thetic. Professional nurses accompany the dying process of their patients in the hos pital, facing many ethical issues in the management of caring in this kind of situations. The purpose of this study is to contribute to the comprehensive understanding of this experience, in order to deliver quality care according to ethical guidelines. Objective: to describe the patterns of knowing in the experience of nurses who accompany the dying process of their patients. A descriptive qualitative study with a hermeneutic ap proach was carried out. The selection of the participants was opinion based. The data was collected by a semi structured interview. Thirteen interviews were carried out, interpreting the information through content analysis. Conclusion: the patterns of knowing in nursing simultaneously appear, being the personal and ethical patterns more significant, determining the quality of caring....
