There exists a wide variety of techniques used nowadays in the fonoaudiological clinic to modify the degree of muscular tension in the area of voice. Nevertheless, there do not exist studies that support the use of one or another depending on its efficiency. The present study tries to compare the effects of two relaxing techniques in 11 subjects that suffer organic or functional vocal pathology increased to the moment of its evaluation. They are subjects which first consultation was realized during the period included between May and October of 2005 in the Service of Otolaryngology of the University of Chile Clinical Hospital. To every patient an electromiographic and phonetic-acoustic evaluation carried out before and after the application one of the relaxing techniques used in this study (massoterapy and passive mobilization of segments). The results were not significative in the demonstration of the efficiency of one of the techniques or the other one depending on the improvement in the vocal quality of the subjects in study. Nevertheless, this study sits a precedent for the objective measurement of the degree of muscular tension supra and infrahioid and its relation with the vocal quality....

The present investigation shows the analysis of the different evaluation devices used by the clinical professors of the infant Speech language therapist internship of the Universidad del Desarrollo (UDD) during 2013 in Santiago, Chile. The analysis was centred in the coherence between those evaluation devices and the content of the undergrad programme of the same institution, from a perspective of a competence based curriculum. Critical parts of the educational process are the procedures used to evaluate the acquisition of competences by students. This is relevant not only to certify the acquisition of the competences, but also because it has a great influence in the students formation process. A qualitative study was designed for the present investigation, conducted through semi-structured interviews. The resultant information was contrasted with a documents analysis of the contents of the infant Speech language therapist internship of the UDD. Finally, it was determined whether or not the evaluation systems used in the programme were coherent with the content and the goals of it. The investigation concludes that the consulted clinic professors’ lack of docent formation that disables them to develop an evaluation system that is both coherent and consistent with the contents of the programme. Regarding the programme, it presented some problems that were making it a poor guide for professors to develop and execute the programme in an appropriate manner. The Speech language therapist department of the UDD realised that they need to improve in their role of supporting the clinical professors, aiming to improve their teaching and learning methods to deliver high quality education. The vast majority of the participants perceived a necessity of debating and discussing more frequently the formation requirements and the evaluation processes for their students. The findings of this study should promote a meaningful reflection about the Speech language therapist career. Only through deep self-awareness and continuous improvement the teaching and learning methodology can be improved....

The present study aims to characterize the conceptions of phonoaudiological exercise in Chile based on transcripts of in-depth interviews to four speech therapists graduates of the University of Chile with over twenty years of experience. The characterization was carried out based on responses attending the professional role, social role and performance areas. The results indicate that exercise phonoaudiological is immersed in a social reality which directly influences the professional role, promoting the acquisition of skills that benefit society according to the current epidemiology. The social role is represented in the public sector benefiting the communicative well-being throughout the life cycle of the user, providing welfare care and now aspiring to a mainly preventive care. Phonoaudiological performance areas have evolved according to national and epidemiological contingency, along with the creation of public policies that respond to the needs of the Chilean population in the last 40 years, contributing to the employment of speech therapist and opening occupational field. In recent years the explosion of universities that provide career has brought a decline in employability and greater specialization in the profession....

This research was mainly directed to propose a spectrum of actions, was conceived from a communitarian model, for the Speech and Language Pathology professionals. These propositions were extracted from an experience of five students cursing 4th year of Speech Therapy and one Speech Therapist, inserted in a social context during the period march-october 2013. The experience in which this research is based on was developed using a qualitative perspective, through the Participatory Action Research methodology (IAP). The chosen scenario for this study was a non-governmental corporation located in Santiago de Chile, named Colectivo sin Fronteras. This institution has as main objective the construction of a society that counts with legal, social and cultural conditions that guarantee the promotion and exercise of the rights of children in situation of migration -including their families- and intercultural coexistence. The length of the research process lasted about eight months. During this time, the procedures of Participant Observation (OP) and Participant Appraisal (DP) were used, for the creation of the objectives raised for this study. The registration process of these actions was made using a field diary. The information obtained was analyzed following a Grounded Theory approach, specifically referred to the open coding phase. Data obtained throughout the study was registered, combined and integrated in order to create a text that organizes the information in different categories of analysis: (1) the access to a communitarian environment; (2) the relationship established with the different actors within the chosen scenario; (3) the planning and execution of the workshop and other activities based in the PAR method, and other situations and elements that were developed along the whole experience. All this framed within a communitarian perspective. This study implies new approaches to an unusual work method within the discipline. It permitted to put in evidence that Speech Pathologists are able to develop their knowledge and practice immersed in communitarian environments, which are considered as enforcing contexts for communicative skills for every person who takes part of it. It also enhances the fields of action that constitute their profession, intending to bring benefits to the social wellbeing. To reach that goal, several skills and capabilities that favor the inclusion within a social context needed to be developed, in order to assimilate, understand and participate in the development of the different behavioral, emotional, cognitive and social patterns that build the community‟s communicative skills....
