La emigración de profesionales chilenos dirigida a España a realizar cursos de posgrado y su potencial de retorno.

Abstract

En esta memoria se analizan cuáles son los motivos de la emigración de profesionales chilenos dirigida a España a realizar cursos de posgrado, explorando consiguientemente su potencial de retorno a Chile.

El primer capítulo es una introducción que pretende familiarizar al lector con la problemática de la migración internacional, específicamente la latinoamericana vinculada al mundo profesional. El segundo capítulo fundamenta el problema de investigación, señalando su atingencia dentro de las Ciencias Sociales y su relevancia en la región en el contexto de la globalización. Posteriormente, se desarrollan en el tercer capítulo, tanto el objetivo general –mencionado en el primer párrafo- como los cuatro objetivos específicos comprendidos en esta investigación: los factores gravitantes en la elección de España, correspondencia entre las expectativas académicas y la educación atendida, la inserción laboral de estos migrantes y la tendencia a futuro de este flujo migratorio. A lo largo del cuarto capítulo se condesa el Marco Teórico de esta investigación, cuyo abordaje conceptual se realiza en un ámbito de carácter temático. Cuatro son los ejes temáticos que se articulan en esta investigación: Chile (América Latina); migración, el tercer patrón migratorio; España (Primer Mundo) y estudiantes profesionales; quienes ya tienen un título de grado. El quinto capítulo aborda el Marco Metodológico, desarrollando un diseño cualitativo con un enfoque descriptivo-interpretativo, a través de la formulación de entrevistas semi estructuradas y de la revisión de fuentes secundarias. El sexto capítulo despliega los resultados obtenidos de esta investigación, extraídos de la codificación de las entrevistas realizadas y del análisis interpretativo de los datos recabados. Finalmente, el séptimo capítulo consiste en las conclusiones, donde se emiten juicios personales, y se discuten los resultados sujetos a los alcances y limitaciones de esta investigación. Se sugieren recomendaciones útiles al problema de investigación, las que podrían contribuir al conocimiento del fenómeno migratorio. Por último, se exponen los aportes de esta memoria a las Ciencias Sociales y a la Antropología.

This thesis analyzes the motivations of the Chilean professionals who choose to attend postgraduate studies in Spain and the possibility of their return back to Chile. The first chapter provides an introduction to studies in international migration patterns, with a focus on the particularities of the experience of Latin American professionals. The second chapter lays out the arguments of this investigation, both positioning them within current migration studies in the social sciences and establishing their relevance to the process of globalization in the region. The third chapter develops the general objective of the investigation and the following four specific objectives: to identify the factors that compel Chilean professionals to choose Spain; to examine the discrepancy between students´ expectations for their academic study and the quality of the actual experience; to explore the work experiences of the professionals during their study in Spain; and to establish predictions for the future of this migration pattern. The fourth chapter establishes the theoretical framework of the investigation, employing four thematic bodies of literature: Chile (Latin America); migration (the third migration pattern); Spain (First World) and professional students (who already have a degree). The fifth chapter deals with methodology, which employed semi-structured interviews and the revision of secondary information sources to develop a qualitative study of descriptive-interpretative design to explore the dynamics of the migration of professionals from Chile to Spain. The sixth chapter details the results of this investigation, which were reached through a coded analysis and interpretation of the interviews. Finally, the seventh chapter consists of the conclusions, bridging a discussion of the results with personal observations, within the limitations of this investigation. Moreover, this chapter presents findings that further an understanding of migration as a global phenomenon, and contribute to the field of anthropology and the social sciences.
