Efecto de la adición de extractos de Quillaja saponaria (Quillay) sola y adicionada de Yucca schidigera (Yucca) sobre la palatabilidad y digestibilidad de dietas comerciales para perros

Abstract

En este estudio se evaluó la incorporación de extracto de Quillaja saponaria (Quillay) sola y combinada con extracto de Yucca schidigera (Yucca), en dietas comerciales para perros. Se determinó su efecto en el primer consumo, en el consumo total, la digestibilidad de los principales nutrientes de las dietas ofrecidas y el score fecal. Se trabajó con 22 perros adultos de ambos sexos, de las razas Boxer, Labrador y Beagle, entrenados para este tipo de estudios, los que estaban alojados en caniles individuales y recibieron agua a libre disposición durante todo el periodo de estudio. Se utilizaron tres dietas balanceadas para perros adultos, las que fueron identificadas como: Dieta Control (sin Quillaja saponaria y Yucca schidigera); Dieta A (con extracto de Quillaja saponaria) y Dieta B (con extracto de Quillaja saponaria y de Yucca schidigera). Se realizaron 3 estudios de palatabilidad donde se enfrentaron en pares de dietas: Dieta Control/Dieta A, Dieta Control/Dieta B y Dieta A/Dieta B; con una duración de 6 días cada uno. Adicionalmente se realizó un ensayo de digestibilidad de las tres dietas, cada uno con una duración total de 12 días. No se registraron alteraciones significativas (p ≤ 0,05) de la palatabilidad de las Dietas A y B en relación a la Dieta Control, si se encontró diferencias significativas entre la Dieta A y Dieta B, siendo la primera más aceptada por los individuos evaluados. La digestibilidad de las tres principales fracciones de la dieta: proteína cruda, carbohidratos no estructurales y grasa cruda, no se vieron afectadas, siendo muy similares a la Dieta Control; y la adición de extractos de Quillaja saponaria (Quillay) y de Yucca schidigera (Yucca) en las dietas ofrecidas no afectó el score fecal de los individuos evaluados. Se concluyó que la adición de extractos de Quillaja saponaria (Quillay) sola y adicionada de Yucca schidigera (Yucca) no tiene efectos sobre la palatabilidad y digestibilidad de dietas comerciales para perros.

In this study the incorporation of Quillaja saponaria extract (Quillay) alone and combined with extract of Yucca schidigera (Yucca), in commercial dog diets was evaluated. Its effect was determined in the first consumption, in the total consumption, the digestibility of the main nutrients of the offered diets and the fecal score. We worked with 22 adult dogs of both sexes, of the breeds Boxer, Labrador and Beagle, trained for this type of studies, those that were housed in individual dogs and received water freely available during the entire study period. Three balanced diets were used for adult dogs, which were identified as: Control Diet (without Quillaja saponaria and Yucca schidigera); Diet A (with extract of Quillaja saponaria) and Diet B (with extract of Quillaja saponaria and Yucca schidigera). Three palatability studies were conducted where they were faced in pairs of diets: Diet Control / Diet A, Diet Control / Diet B and Diet A / Diet B; with a duration of 6 days each. Additionally, a digestibility test of the three diets was carried out, each with a total duration of 12 days. There were no significant alterations (p ≤0.05) of the palatability of Diets A and B in relation to the Control Diet, if significant differences were found between Diet A and Diet B, being the first one more accepted by the evaluated individuals. The digestibility of the three main fractions of the diet: crude protein, non-structural carbohydrates and crude fat, were not affected, being very similar to the Control Diet; and the addition of extracts of Quillaja saponaria (Quillay) and Yucca schidigera (Yucca) in the offered diets did not affect the fecal score of the evaluated individuals. It was concluded that the addition of extracts of Quillaja saponaria (Quillay) alone and added Yucca schidigera (Yucca) has no effect on the palatability and digestibility of commercial dog diets.
