Novel channel hopping sequence approaches to rendezvous for VANETs
Author
Abstract
Vehicularad hocnetworks (VANETs) have emergedas a paradigm for sharing information among vehicles andinfrastructure that has the potential to provide road safety andtravellers comfort. The bandwidth limitation is one of the mainchallenges of this technology, however, the growing perspectivesof applications demand more and more service channels. In thiswork we propose two novel channel hopping (CH) sequenceapproaches to rendezvous, in order to allow VANET applicationsto use unlicensed channels. Besides, practical implementationconsiderations to reduce the search space and to replace thebusy channels are discussed. We evaluate the performance ofthe proposed strategies in the presence of users competing forthe available channels. Our results indicate that with a suitableCH sequence it is possible to increase the number of usefulchannels for rendezvous and thus decrease the percentage offailed rendezvous.
