Las tomas de viviendas durante la Unidad Popular. Nuevas perspectivas sobre la lucha por la vivienda en Santiago de Chile

Abstract

La presente investigación pretende ser un aporte a una comprensión más compleja sobre las luchas por la vivienda durante el gobierno de la Unidad Popular, a través del estudio de las ocupaciones ilegales de viviendas. El análisis de la prensa y una revisión de los archivos ministeriales nos permitió identificar tomas de viviendas y departamentos en 81 poblaciones de Santiago. Las características de estas ocupaciones ilegales, los actores que participaron en ellas, y sus relaciones con los partidos políticos y el gobierno, han revelado dinámicas inesperadas, que son sensiblemente diferentes de las más conocidas tomas de terrenos. Estos hallazgos abren interrogantes sobre la participación de los pobladores y las clases medias en la conflictividad social.

This research aims to contribute to a more complex understanding of the housing struggles during the Popular Unity government, through the study of the illegal housing occupations. A press analysis and a review of the ministerial archives allowed us to identify the squatting of 81 housing projects in Santiago. The characteristics of these illegal occupations, the actors involved, and their relationship with political parties and the government, has revealed unexpected dynamics that are noticeably different from the most well-known land seizures. These findings open questions about the involvement of low-income sectors and the middle classes in social conflicts.
