Yo no soy ésa: representación y desidentificación en el testimonio de una prostituta (Santiago de Chile, 1908)

Abstract

Desde un enfoque en la teoría política feminista, el presente texto desarrolla un análisis en torno a la lucha de un sujeto popular femenino por el poder de la (auto)representación a comienzos del siglo XX. Concretamente, a partir de la denuncia —conservada en el Archivo Nacional Histórico de Chile— de María Espinoza a su exproxeneta, identificamos y analizamos la treta y la desidentificación como “estrategias parias” (Varikas, 2007). Focalizándonos en el potencial hermenéutico de estas estrategias políticas paradójicas, desarrollamos una lectura a contrapelo del testimonio de esta prostituta con el objeto de presentar ciertas marcas de la historicidad del género que aporten a construir genealogías críticas de la femineidad legítima.

From the feminist political theory, the present work develops an analysis around the struggle of a popular feminine subject for the power of (self)representation at the beginning of the 20th century. In particular, from the complaint —kept in the National Historical Archive of Chile— of María Espinoza against her ex-pimp, we identify and analyze the ploy and the disidentification as “outcast strategies” (Varikas, 2007). Focusing on the hermeneutic potential of these paradoxical political strategies, we develop a reading in contravention of this prostitute’s testimony in order to analyze certain marks of the gender historicity that contribute to construct critical genealogies of the legitimate femininity
