Valoración del estigma personal desde terapia ocupacional

Abstract

La presente actividad formativa, equivalente al trabajo final de grado, tuvo como objetivo conocer la relación entre la valoración del estigma personal y el desempeño ocupacional en cinco áreas de la ocupación (participación social, actividades instrumentales de la vida diaria, gestión de salud, educación y trabajo) en personas con diagnóstico de esquizofrenia que se atienden en el Programa Trastornos Psiquiátricos Severos (TPM) del Centro Comunitario de Salud Mental (COSAM) CODESAM Pudahuel a través de la aplicación del instrumento Valoración del Estigma Personal desde Terapia Ocupacional (VEPTO), el cual fue confeccionado a partir de la escala de evaluación Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness (ISMI), supuestos teóricos y el marco de trabajo para la práctica de terapia ocupacional.

Para lograr este objetivo de estudio se planteó una metodología mixta con diseño incrustado concurrente de modelo dominante cualitativo. El análisis de la información se realizó por medio de la teoría fundamentada y la creación de una base de datos.

Los hallazgos de este proyecto permitieron identificar y evaluar cómo el estigma personal influye negativamente en el desempeño ocupacional. A su vez, se pesquisó que la escala VEPTO sería un instrumento pertinente para evaluar el estigma personal y contribuir a la práctica de la terapia ocupacional.

Se espera que este estudio contribuya a visualizar el estigma personal en el ámbito de la terapia ocupacional y que también motive a los profesionales del área a desarrollar futuras investigaciones a partir de la aplicación de la escala VEPTO en diferentes ámbitos sociales.

The present formative activity, equivalent to the compulsory final project, was intended to gain knowledge of the relationship between the personal stigma and the occupational performance in five areas of the occupation (social participation, daily instrumental activities, health management, education and work) in people who have a diagnosis on schizophrenia and are treated at the Severe Psychiatric Disorders Programme (TPM) at the Local Community Mental Health Center (COSAM) CODESAM Pudahuel through the application of the instrument known as Personal Stigma Assessment from Occupational Therapy (VEPTO), which was created on the basis of the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness assessment scale, theoretical premises and the Framework for the Practise of Occupational Therapy.

In order to achieve this study objective, a mixed methodology was suggested along with a common design of the qualitative dominant model. The analysis of the information was achieved by means of the grounded theory and the creation of a database. The findings of this project allowed to identify and assess how the personal stigma negatively influences the occupational performance. At the same time, it was concluded that the VEPTO scale would be a relevant instrument to assess the personal stigma and contribute to the practice of occupational therapy.

It is expected that this study contributes to the illustration of personal stigma in terms of occupational therapy, and also motivates professionals to carry out future research on the basis of the application of the VEPTO scale in different social contexts.
