Árbol y ciudad : propuesta de ilustración botánica acerca del patrimonio cultural de Santiago

Abstract

Esta memoria presenta el proyecto Árbol y ciudad como propuesta de ilustración botánica acerca del patrimonio cultural de Santiago, que refiere a una proyecto editorial que reune ilustración botánica, diseño y patrimonio natural-cultural. El objetivo es visibilizar la flora presente en espacios urbanos patrimoniales de Santiago, reconociendo a los árboles como portadores de memoria y elementos identitarios del paisaje. El trabajo se divide en dos etapas: investigativa y proyectual. En la primera se abordan conceptos como ilustración botánica y patrimonio, así como estrategias metodológicas para la selección de individuos arbóreos y lugares. La etapa proyectual da origen a un libro ilustrado que incluye ocho especies arbóreas, graficadas mediante acuarelas. Cada árbol cuenta con una ilustración de contexto, una ficha botánica y un texto que recoge su vínculo con el lugar que habita. El resultado es un prototipo editorial que promueve la educación patrimonial y la valoración de la flora urbana. La ilustración botánica aparece aquí no solo como una herramienta científica o estética, sino también como una forma de generar cercanía, memoria y cuidado hacia el entorno que compartimos.

This thesis presents the project “Tree and City: Botanical illustration about the cultural heritage of Santiago”, an editorial proposal that unites botanical illustration, design, and natural-cultural heritage. The objective is to make visible the flora present in Santiago’s urban patrimonial spaces, recognizing trees as bearers of memory and identity elements of the landscape. The work is divided into two stages: investigative and project-based. The first addresses concepts such as botanical illustration and heritage, as well as methodological strategies for the selection of tree specimens and locations. The project-based stage gives rise to an illustrated book that includes eight tree species, represented through watercolors. Each tree features a contextual illustration, a botanical data sheet, and a text that captures its connection to the place it inhabits. The result is an editorial prototype that promotes heritage education and the appreciation of urban flora. Botanical illustration appears here not only as a scientific or aesthetic tool, but also as a way to generate closeness, memory, and care towards the environment we share.
