Análisis territorial de la principal necrópolis de Chile : el Cementerio General de Santiago, Chile (1821-2017)

Abstract

En el siguiente trabajo, se plantea la realización de un análisis territorial, del Cementerio General de Santiago de Chile, abarcando un periodo histórico, desde su creación en el año 1821, al año 2017. Identificando el cambio espacial, entorno al establecimiento, la percepción y el estado de valorización patrimonial de este como panteón, servicio no deseado y lugar heterópico, destacando que en la actualidad es un Monumento Nacional. En este sentido comprender como ha sido su articulación dentro del contexto de la expansión urbana del Gran Santiago, realza su importancia, considerando que en sus inicios, el Cementerio general fue dispuesto y construido a las afueras de la ciudad, pero a su vez, conectado a esta; y que de acuerdo al crecimiento de la población urbana, hoy se ve inmerso dentro de la ciudad, cuando es el cementerio laico más antiguo y grande de Chile, un museo a cielo abierto y lugar de visita obligada para turistas y deudos.

In the following work, the realization of a territorial analysis is proposed, from the Cementerio General of Santiago de Chile, covering a historical period, from its creation in the year 1821, to the year 2017; identifying the spatial change, environment of the establishment, the perception and the state of patrimonial valorization of this as a pantheon, unwanted service and heteropic place, highlighting that at present it is a National Monument. In this sense, understanding how it has been articulated within the context of the urban expansion of the Gran Santiago, enhances its importance, considering that in its beginnings, the Cementerio General was laid out and built on the outskirts of the city, but at the same time, connected to this; and that according to the growth of the urban population, today is immersed inside the city, when it is the oldest and largest lay cemetery in Chile, an open-air museum, and a must see for tourists and relatives of deceased ones.
