Creencias de madres, padres y cuidadores sobre los efectos del uso de smartphones y tablets en el desarrollo del lenguaje de niñas y niños de 0 a 6 años

Abstract

En los últimos años el uso de dispositivos de pantalla táctil ha crecido significativamente en la primera infancia, abriendo numerosos debates respecto al impacto en la salud, el bienestar y el desarrollo cognitivo en esta etapa. El objetivo de esta investigación fue analizar las creencias parentales sobre el efecto del uso de smartphones y tablets [SPyT] en el desarrollo del lenguaje de niñas y niños de 0 a 6 años. Participaron 114 madres, padres y cuidadores de niñas y niños que asisten a nueve jardines infantiles de diferentes comunas de la Región Metropolitana, quienes respondieron el cuestionario sobre el uso de celulares y tablets en niños y niñas. Los resultados sugieren que madres, padres y cuidadores valoran de manera positiva el efecto de SPyT en el desarrollo del lenguaje, y que esta valoración es positiva independiente de la edad de los padres y de niñas y niños. Sin embargo, las madres con mayor nivel educativo tienden a valorar negativamente los efectos de SPyT en el desarrollo del lenguaje. Estos resultados se discuten a partir de la literatura actual que enfatiza la importancia de la interacción y andamiaje de los adultos en el desarrollo de habilidades lingüísticas y comunicativas en los primeros años

In recent years, the use of touch screen devices has grown significantly in early childhood, opening numerous debates regarding the impact on health, well-being, and cognitive development at this stage. The objective of this research was to analyze parental beliefs about the effect of the use of smartphones and tablets [SPyT] on the language development of girls and boys from 0 to 6 years old. 114 mothers, fathers and caregivers of boys and girls who attend nine kindergartens in different communes of the Metropolitan Region participated, who answered the questionnaire on the use of cell phones and tablets in boys and girls. The results suggest that mothers, fathers, and caregivers positively value the effect of SPyT on language development, and that this evaluation is positive regardless of the age of the parents and of girls and boys. However, mothers with a higher educational level tend to negatively value the effects of SPyT on language development. These results are discussed from the current literature that emphasizes the importance of interaction and scaffolding for adults in the development of language and communication skills in the early years
