Alba, mediodía y ocaso : cuentos ilustrados

Abstract

“Alba, Mediodía y Ocaso: cuentos ilustrados” corresponde a la investigación que servirá como columna vertebral para el proyecto de ilustración editorial de tres cuentos del libro “Reloj de Sol” (1930) de la autora chilena Marta Brunet. El objetivo de estas ilustraciones inéditas es mejorar la experiencia de lectura a través del lenguaje gráfico-visual de la ilustración ampliando la accesibilidad y el atractivo visual de los cuentos, generando además una puesta en valor y un rescate patrimonial de la literatura chilena. Este proyecto plantea una serie de inquietudes que se intentarán resolver en las siguientes páginas, tales como el rol que cumple la ilustración dentro de la experiencia de lectura de un cuento; cómo ayudan las ilustraciones a transmitir temas y emociones complejas dentro de las historias escritas; la digitalización del libro; la visión de las editoriales en cuanto al diseño gráfico-visual de los libros de cuentos para adultos, y la visibilidad de la mujer en los campos tanto del diseño como de la literatura. Empleando metodologías cuantitativas y cualitativas, la primera etapa investigativa plantea los antecedentes del cuento, la ilustración y la disciplina del diseño gráfico necesarios para analizar el lenguaje visual utilizado en la ilustración editorial de cuentos. La segunda etapa proyectual consiste en la exploración de referentes visuales, justificación del estilo y el proceso creativo detrás de las propuestas de ilustración.

“Dawn, Noon, and Dusk: illustrated storybooks” corresponds to the research that will serve as the backbone for the editorial illustration project of three stories from the book “Reloj de Sol” (1930) by Chilean author Marta Brunet. The goal of these unpublished illustrations is to enhance the reading experience through the graphic-visual language of illustration, expanding the accessibility and visual appeal of the stories, while also fostering cultural appreciation and heritage preservation of Chilean literature. This project raises several questions that will be addressed in the following pages, such as the role of illustration in the reading experience of a story; how illustrations help convey complex themes and emotions within written narratives; the digitization of books; the perspective of publishers regarding the graphic-visual design of short story collections for adults; and the visibility of women in both the fields of design and literature. Using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, the first research stage establishes the background of short stories, illustration, and the discipline of graphic design necessary to analyze the visual language used in editorial illustration for short stories. The second project stage involves exploring visual references, justifying the style, and detailing the creative process behind the proposed illustrations.
