Efectos de la prisionalización en gendarmes jubilados

Abstract

Esta tesis explora el fenómeno de la prisionalización en gendarmes jubilados, específicamente aquellos que alcanzaron el grado de "suboficial mayor" en Gendarmería de Chile. La investigación se centra en las experiencias subjetivas de estos funcionarios durante sus años de servicio y cómo estas experiencias han impactado su salud mental y bienestar después de la jubilación. El estudio se realizó mediante un enfoque cualitativo, utilizando entrevistas en profundidad con 10 gendarmes jubilados. Los hallazgos revelan que la prisionalización tiene efectos significativos en la vida emocional, cognitiva y física de los gendarmes, generando un impacto duradero incluso después de su retiro. Se abordan temas como el estigma asociado al trabajo en prisiones, la deshumanización, la violencia intrínseca al entorno carcelario y las consecuencias psicológicas que resultan de estas condiciones. La tesis concluye que la prisionalización no solo afecta a los internos, sino también a quienes trabajan en el sistema penitenciario, destacando la necesidad de un mayor apoyo psicológico y social para estos profesionales.

This thesis explores the phenomenon of prisonization in retired prison officers, specifically those who reached the rank of "Senior Non-Commissioned Officer" in Gendarmería de Chile. The research focuses on the subjective experiences of these officers during their years of service and how these experiences have impacted their mental health and well-being after retirement. The study was conducted using a qualitative approach, involving in-depth interviews with 10 retired officers. The findings reveal that prisonization has significant effects on the emotional, cognitive, and physical lives of these officers, creating a lasting impact even after their retirement. Topics such as the stigma associated with working in prisons, dehumanization, the inherent violence of the prison environment, and the psychological consequences resulting from these conditions are addressed. The thesis concludes that prisonization affects not only inmates but also those who work within the penitentiary system, highlighting the need for greater psychological and social support for these professionals.
