San Sebastián de Yumbel: imagen y procesión por un vernáculo espacio religioso biobiense (Chile)

Abstract

El presente estudio se centra en la festividad de San Sebastián en Yumbel (Chile), explorando la utilización y el significado de los espacios religiosos en esta celebración. Aunque investigaciones previas sobre la imagen de San Sebastián y su festividad religiosa, carencia de un análisis en profundidad y la relevancia de esta temática en cuestión, dejando con ello un vacío disciplinario. El Santuario estudiado va más allá de la iglesia, ya que, durante las festividades, varios lugares del pueblo se emplean para concretar el ritual católico, desde las calles por donde transcurren las procesiones hasta el campo de oración, lo que demuestra que con el transcurrir del tiempo, el lugar religioso ha debido ampliarse por una falta de espacio para albergar a un número considerable de fieles y peregrinos, que llegan anualmente a las celebraciones del santo estudiado en pos de agradecer algún favor o milagro concedido.

This study focuses on the feast of San Sebastián in Yumbel (Chile), exploring the use and meaning of religious spaces in this celebration. Although previous research on the image of Saint Sebastian and its religious festivity lacked an in-depth analysis and the relevance of this issue in question, leaving a disciplinary vacuum. The Sanctuary studied goes beyond the church, since, during the festivities, several places in the town are used to concretize the Catholic ritual, from the streets where the processions take place to the prayer field, which shows that with the passage of time, the religious site has had to be expanded due to a lack of space to accommodate a considerable number of faithful and pilgrims, who come annually to the celebrations of the saint studied in order to thank some favor or miracle granted.
