Los autores han buscado acercar la docencia a problemas prácticos y actuales. En este caso la experiencia se concentró en el terremoto de Iquique1, que echó por tierra numerosas construcciones, y puso en jaque la permanencia de edificios de valor patrimonial.

The authors of this article have proposed to lessen the breach between academic issues and the present day problems, as well as the practical ones. The exercise used as a study case is the earthquake in Iquique (in 2005). Many buildings collapsed and many others (some of which were part of our national heritage) were endangered, too.
