Abstract
dc.description.abstract
This article focuses on the role of the International Documentary Film Festival of Santiago FIDOCS in renovating the Chilean documentary field over the last twenty years. After the return of democracy to Chile, various political and cultural transformations changed the forms of film production, circulation and exhibition in the country, allowing for the creation of a film festival that would play a key role in the reconfiguration of the cultural field. This article gives an account of the ways in which the festival has promoted documentary cinema in Chile by exhibiting and circulating canonical Chilean documentaries and international documentary films, and by creating a space for cultural exchange, the training of new professionals, and the emergence of new documentary audiences.
