There is widespread debate about the directionality in the relationship between language and cognition, as well as taking into consideration the effects of age on these skills. This research contributes to this debate by studying the relationship between the formulation of plans in the elderly and the ability to focus and sustain attention, as well as inhibition of interference, storage and executive control of working memory, free recall and recognition of episodic memory, comprehension of spoken narrative discourse and the management of mental verbs, modality and evaluation while expressing narrative and descriptive discourses. To do this, 25 elderly people of typical ability for their age and 26 young adults were assessed, excluding people with neuropsyquiatric disorders. A bivariate linear regression analysis was made, which suggests that older adults have difficulties in formulating the plan, but not in executing it. Furthermore, proving that none of the tests applied separately significantly predict performance in a formulating the plan. However, the combination of attention and memory performance explained 57.3% of the variance (R2=.573, F=3.25, p<.05). Episodic memory in terms of free recall accurately predicted the formulating of the plan (β=.67, p<.05), as it did recognition (β=-1.75, p <.05). Results are discussed regarding the relationship and the effect of these variables in the aging process in terms of planning capacity....

Introduction: Child´s developmental lag is defined as the failure to acquire skills expected for a child's age, which leads to a developmental mismatch that is not consistent with his real potential. According to recent research, in Chile, Child´s lag is prevalent and correlates with socioeconomic status. Language difficulties, evidenced in a delay in the onset of milestones at any level, are cause of lag. Its prevalence is estimated high, although currently there is no available research in Chile regarding it (Ministerio de Salud, 2011). The execution of preventive measures at the Primary Health Care (PHC), such as workshops that address the problem opportunely, is warranted, according to this background. However, attendance to workshops is considered low and people´s preferences are unknown in regards to its implementation. Given that, it is necessary to inquire into people´s preferences in order to set a unit tailored to their needs and interests, so that a better attendance is achieved. Objective: This study aims to determine the preferences of caregivers of children under 12 months of age, assigned to the Family Health Center (CESFAM) "Cristo Vive", in the north of the Metropolitan area, in regards to form of delivery and content of an early language stimulation workshop. Methodology: A group of 39 caregivers of children under 12 months of age were invited to an early language stimulation face-to-face workshop, which was performed in four different opportunities. After one week, a telephone survey was conducted to all recruited people, whether they attended to the workshop or not. Results: The usefulness of text messaging as a reminder method, the reported relevance of language development in children, the reported preference of being personally invited to workshops and predilection for in-person type of interventions are among the most important findings. Conclusion: A high percentage of people reported to prefer face-to-face against non face-to-face interventions. Nevertheless, the number of people that actually attend to workshops is low. It is a challenge to find out new forms to increase people´s attendance to these instances....
