The environmental perception is understood as the process of getting to know the physical environment through different sources of information, such as the senses, previous knowledge, personal experiences, feelings and sensations, which simultaneously influence attitudes towards the environment. This process is of crucial, since it determines the way in which people relate to their environment, influencing their decisions with respect to it. The study of environmental perception is a tool that should be valued within territorial planning; it involves the inhabitants in the transformations of their environment, in addition to building participatory communities that intervene directly in the decisions made in regard to the space they live. Within geography, the study of urban green areas has been approached from an environmental and biological perspective, exhibiting the multiple benefits that these spaces have. Green areas shelter native and urban fauna and flora, being home to diverse microorganisms and the different exosystemic services such as the reduction of ambient temperature, constant air cleaning, and their contributions to human wellbeing. Moreover, from a further critical perspective, the study of green areas in Chile has been limited to analyze the existing segregation according to their accessibility and extension in relation to the number of inhabitants of each territory. However, studies that approach the above-mentioned features are little addressed. This project encompasses the planning and execution of an active learning experience in a school in Puente Alto, which also aims at analyzing the environmental perception of high school students about urban green areas. This study has been carried out by means of three sessions, working on the different dimensions that concern environmental perception; we analyzed the incidence of this experience in the attitude the students developed with respect to the green areas of the location. According to the data analyzed, the environmental education presents several challenges. It is a great opportunity to influence the environmental perception that individuals have about their settings; however, the Chilean school system, significant shortcomings must be addressed if we want to achieve some effective change in the relationship people have with their environment, especially in the current context driven by climate change. Furthermore, through a discursive analysis, questionnaire and participatory activities, participants in this project delivered a characterization of the green areas of Puente Alto. They also showed actual environmental knowledge of their setting. Finally, they expressed feelings and emotions that green areas made them feel, and the new opportunities and intentions to transform the inhabited environment....
