de atención. Por lo tanto, el buen desarrollo de las FE a una temprana edad podría ser un factor protector en el desarrollo de la obesidad y la elección de estilos de vida más saludables. Sería importante estudiar hasta qué edad persisten estas...
Actual obesity treatment has not been efficient to decrease the problem, especially in childhood, increasing the risk of obesity and other complications in adult life. Executive functions play a key role for establishing a healthy eating behavior, since they are high brain functions related to cognitive inhibition and decision making. Previous research has shown that body mass index is inversely related to performance in executive function tests and, on the other hand, weight loss is associated with an improvement in executive functions in obese individuals. The objective of this study is to determine if there is a relationship between behavior in childhood and the development of executive functions and nutritional status in school age and adolescence. The subjects analyzed, came from a longitudinal retrospective study that began in 1990. Executive functions were evaluated with neurpsychological tasks: Stroop test that determine cognitive inhibition and the TMT that evaluates working memory and cognitive flexibility. The behavioral measures were obtained through the questionnaire CABI. Children with a higher score in hyperactivity behavior had a higher prevalence of overweight and at a higher risk of developing overweight in adolescence, regardless of their initial nutritional status. In the TMT the subjects with overweight took more time and make more mistakes than normal weight subjects. The subjects who increase their zBMI had longer time in wrong responses delayed, presenting a curve similar to that obtained at age 10 than that of their normal counterparts. For the Stroop test, a positive and significant association was found between zBMI and the difference between the reaction time of incongruents responses minus congruent responses (interference) in subjects with overweight. This study shows that hyperactive behavior would be a risk factor for developing overweight in adolescence, probably due to increased impulsivity and inattention. Individuals with overweight have less precision and are slower. Therefore, the adequate development of EFs at an early age could be a protective factor in the development of obesity and the choice of healthier lifestyles. It would be important 4 to study how old these differences persist and whether adequate stimulation of EFs at an early age prevents overweight....
