The hierarchical perspective in the study of the ecological niche is still underdeveloped, despite the usefulness of this theoretical concept to simplify work on complex systems or systems that explain their behavior based on multiple variables. The objective of this thesis was to demonstrate, through a case study, how concepts used in other branches of ecology (for example, ecology of ecosystems) can contribute to simplify the study of the ecological niche. In this work, the regeneration of 5 tree species and 7 variables that affect, at different scales (local and microsite), the establishment of seedlings in the Los Ruiles National Reserve (Maule Region, Chile) were studied. The results corroborate that the segregation between species with partial overlap (.,4. puncttatum-C. alba, and N. dombeyi_L. caustica) would be due to differences in the tolerance ranges to some environmental variables (niche axes). The results allow us to know the spatial distribution range of the species based on the axes of the niche studied, the scar to which the variables most strongly restrict their establishment and their spatial segregation...

Philippi's frog Telmatobius philippii Cuevas and Formas, 2002, is an anuran species endemic to Chile, whose type locality corresponds to the Amincha stream (Antofagasta administrative region). It is categorized as Critically Endangered (CR) according to the criteria of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and most of its natural history is unknown. The objective of this study was to evaluate the trophic ecology of this species in different seasons of the year. Four sampling campaigns were carried out during the years 2021 to 2022. Biometric data were obtained and samples of stomach contents were collected from 57 individuals, using the "Stomach flushing" technique, and were also obtained samples of the environmental supply of prey. The results show that this anuran was a selective predator, showing a low niche breadth and a diet composed of benthic invertebrates, being those belonging to the families Hyalellidae, Elmidae, Chironomidae, Simuliidae and Baetidae as the main prey. When comparing the results of the different seasons studied, a high niche overlap was found and no significant differences were observed in the body condition of the anurans. No relationship was identified between total volume of prey consumed by individuals and their biometry, sex or the season of the year in which they were collected. This information is important for the development of future conservation plans for this species, where its specialized dietary habits allow us to understand its greater susceptibility to extinction processes....
