The development of feeding children is within a continuous, evolving from orofacial reflexes into orofacial functions. The proper development and implementation of these functions are important for the maxillofacial development of the child. In recent years, an increasing number of children born prematurely. This premature condition can cause various alterations on neurodevelopment of orofacial functions, which could directly affect the acquisition of appropriate eating patterns, interfering with optimal nutrition and feeding of the child. The purpose of this seminar research is to describe and compare the reflexes and orofacial functions between term and preterm infants of 6 and 9 months corrected age without neurological damage and submit medical stability, in order to determine whether there are differences in the performance of these parameters....

Multiple studies have suggested an association between language deficits and specific alterations in Central Auditory Processing (CAP). At the functional level, the CAP is closely related to the function of the Auditory efferent pathway. There is evidence that the hearing test Otoacoustic Emissions (OAEs) with suppression effect (ES) accounts for the operation of this system. The aim of this study was to determine and compare the performance of Transient otoacoustic emissions (TEOAEs) with and without contralateral noise in children 4.0 to 6.6 years with and without language impairment. The sample consisted of 7 children and 7 children with Language Impairment control, which were submitted to rigorous audiological tests and examination of TEOAEs with and without contralateral white noise presented at 60 dB. Finally we determined the difference in amplitude of both TEOAEs and comparison was made between the two groups. Statistical analysis of the results was performed by nonparametric tests. The results suggest that there thrown statistically significant difference between the values is between both study groups, with and without Language Impairment....

The comprehension of the oral narrative discourse (CDNO) in natural contexts and in the way of daily anecdotes in persons without communication disorders was a no investigated subject in the phonoaudiological field up to now. This seminar proposes the Test of the Comprehension of the Oral Narrative Discourse as a way to evaluate the comprehension of this kind of narrations, considering as variables the age, educational level, auditive comprehension and cognitive performance to analyze their influence over the comprehension of the discourse. 122 persons were evaluated, Chilean men and women between the age of 25 and 88, without any neurological pathology, right handwriting and with spanish as a native language; distributed in 4 groups according to age, and in 3 levels according to educational level. The sample group was exposed to three tests. Comprehension of the Oral Narrative Discourse Test, Token Test and Raven Test, these tests allow to objectivize the CDNO variables, auditive comprehension and cognitive performance respectively. The results indicate important differences in the performance of the CDNO, according to age and educational level. It is observed that the CDNO is related in an inverse way to the age and in a direct way to the educational level, auditive comprehension and cognitive performance. These findings may constitute the basis for future investigations that go further in the process of comprehension in daily and functional contexts, and in the different levels of complexity that our instrument presents with the goal to broaden its use to persons who suffer from aphasia....

The purpose of the present study is to contribute on the characterization of the use of function words of Chilean children with Specific Language Impairment (SLI). Twenty-four monolingual Spanish-speaking children participated in this study, ranging from ages 4;0-5;11 years old, divided equitably into two groups: 1) SLI and 2) Typical Language Development (TLD) paired by age (+/- 4 months). Both groups were assessed regarding narration, completion and elicitation, and repetition tasks in order to learn about their use of function words, specifically, articles, clitics and prepositions. The descriptive analysis on the results were expressed as percentages and it showed that for the total score of the use of function words group 1 had a 77,8% and group 2 a 85,3%. In articles, group 1 had a 78,3% and group 2 a 85,2%. In clitics, group 1 had a 73,3% and group 2 a 100%. Lastly, in prepositions, group 1 had a 81,4% and group 2 a 89,7%. On the other hand, the comparative analysis of scores in both groups of children showed a significant difference in the total score of correct use of function words, in articles, and in prepositions, where the SLI group had a lower performance (having a great effect measure). In clitics, SLI group had a lower performance than TLD group, but this difference is not significant, however, it had a great effect measure, and this could imply that the difference would possibly be significant if the sample was bigger....

Introduction: Asperger’s Syndrome (SA) is framed within the Pervasive Developmental Disorders. This research seminar focused on the comparison of narrative elements referred to mentalistic skills and mental states recognition in pictures of looks and if this performance is due to a difficulty in skills of Theory of Mind (TM). This relationship would allow an approach to future therapeutic guidelines based on specific deficits of these individuals. Method: 18 subjects with SA who completed NB1 were evaluated. These were compared with 18 subjects with typical development of language and communication (DT), matched for sex and age. The instruments used were the picture book "Frog where are you?", Comparing quantity and type of mental expressions, deixis and anaphoric pronouns and the test "Reading the Mind in the Eyes" children’s version. To complement this, two tests applied to control biases: TEVI-R and a survey addressed to parents about their children's mentalistic vocabulary. Results: There were significant differences between subjects with SA and DT in producing mentalistic expressions of will, anaphoric pronouns, temporal deixis and the number of correct answers in the recognition of mental states. Conclusions: The difficulties presented by subjects with SA in the tests, mainly respond to an impairment in the skills of TM. Despite this, methodological objections are shown which should be taken into account in future research....
