Abstract

This article review pharmacological aspects of antipsychotics drugs. The concepts of typical and atypical antipsychotics drugs is discussed. An atypical neuroleptic is a drug that has antipsychotic efficacy, with minimal extrapyramidal side effects and does not cause tardive dyskinesia or causes a small elevation of serum prolactine levels. Several hypothesis about the molecular mechanisms that explain atypically are considered.
