Abstract
Introduction: Nephron sparing surgery in renal cancer is a feasible and safe surgical technique, nonetheless, remains a skills highly demanding procedure. We present the complications events of a large series of laparoscopic partial nephrectomies performed in our institution. Material and Methods: A total of 147 patients were treated with laparoscopic partial nephrectomies between July 1999 and April 2007. Median age was 58 years (33-87) female/male ratio 2:1. Median operative time was 104 min. (35-180), and median blood loss was 258 ml (range 0 a 2000 ml.). Median tumor size was 2.7 cm (1-7). Demographic and surgical data was prospectively collected. Results: Out of 147 patients, 20 patients (13.6%) had one or more complications. Seven (4.7%) intraoperative and 13 (8.8%) postoperative complications were verified. The most frequent complication was hemorrhage either intra or postoperatively. Intraoperative hemorrhage occurred in 5 cases (3.4%); Delayed hemorrhage was observed in 5 case
