Gastric cancer in Chile: A cooperative interhospital study III. Five-year survival rate
Abstract
This report showed the survival figures for gastric cancer in Chile. For the whole group, a survival rate of 6.6% was obtained. This figure can be divided into 19% for the resected cases and 0% for the non-resected patients. In the resected group, the mean survival rate was 75.7% for early gastric cancer cases; 48.4% for patients with cancer infiltrations up to the muscularis propria and 21.4% for those with serosal invasions.A mean survival rate of 25.4% was obtained with subtotal distal gastrectomy performed for patients with cancer located in the middle or lower third of the stomach. When cancer was located in the upper third of the stomach, the 5-year survival rate in total gastrectomy cases was 19% and proximal gastrectomy cases was 8.7% in Chile. © 1975 Oxford University Press.
