Medical Conditions in Chile
Abstract
To the Editor: The Special Article, “Chilean Medicine under Social Revolution” (N Engl J Med 295:193, 1976), and the related editorial in the same issue prompt two observations. The first is that, as the editorial indicates, it currently requires unusual courage for anyone to oppose the commands of modern political authorities. Perhaps only more ordinary degrees of courage would be necessary if health workers supported and defended their colleagues who, in acts of conscience, refused to lend their professional skills to immoral or illegal political programs.
