El "duelo lingüístico" del migrante: caracterización de la situación de contacto/conflicto lingüístico experimentada por la población migrante de orígen haitiano en la comuna de Quilicura en Santiago de Chile: estudio exploratorio desde la antropología lingüística

Abstract

La investigación tuvo por objetivo caracterizar, desde el punto de vista antropológico lingüístico, la situación de contacto/conflicto lingüístico que experimenta parte de la población haitiana residente en la comuna de Quilicura, en Santiago de Chile. Para alcanzar el objetivo propuesto se analizaron las consecuencias psicosociales, lingüísticas y culturales que genera el “duelo lingüístico” en los migrantes haitianos, por medio de la descripción de representaciones sociales construidas por ellos y los chilenos respecto al español como segunda lengua y la variedad lingüística hablada por estos últimos. La naturaleza de este estudio fue exploratoria con un enfoque metodológico mixto. Primero, se aplicó una encuesta sociolingüística a migrantes haitianos radicados en Chile, analizada en términos cuantitativos; y, luego, se recabaron entrevistas semiestructuradas, a chilenos y haitianos, que se complementaron con la observación participante en terreno y el uso de fuentes secundarias de información, para un análisis cualitativo. Los resultados obtenidos dan cuenta de un desplazamiento explícito del creole a favor del castellano con una pérdida de su funcionalidad en espacios en que, previa a su migración a Chile, solo tenía cabida e l creole. Según las declaraciones emitidas por los haitianos, las representaciones sociales construidas en torno hacia su lengua materna señalan la existencia de un sentimiento simbólico antes que lingüístico, en la que su práctica significará la rememoración de su cultura que los vincula periódicamente con la isla. Por otra parte, la adquisición del español se tornará necesaria en la búsqueda de trabajo así como también en la inserción en el medio social chileno y evitar así actos racistas de discriminación y xenofobia.

This research aims to characterize, from the linguistic anthropological point of view, the contact / linguistic conflict situation experienced by part of the Haitian population residing in the Quilicura commune in Santiago, Chile. In order to reach the proposed objective, the psychosocial, linguistic and cultural consequences generated by the "linguistic duel" in Haitian migrants were analyzed, through the description of social representations constructed by them and Chileans respect to Spanish as a second language and the linguistic variety spoken by Haitian migrants. The nature of this study was exploratory with a mixed methodological approach. First, a sociolinguistic survey was applied to Haitian migrants settled down in Chile, analyzed in quantitative terms; and, then, it was collected semi structured interviews with Chileans and Haitians, which was complemented with participant observation in the field and the use of secondary sources of information, for a qualitative analysis. The results obtained show an explicit displacement of Creole in favor of Spanish with a loss of its functionality in areas where, prior to their migration to Chile, only Creole had a place. According to the statements issued by the Haitians, the social representations built around their mother tongue indicate the existence of a symbolic rather than a linguistic feeling, in which their practice will mean the remembrance of their culture as the link with the island. On the other hand, the acquisition of Spanish will become necessary in the search for work as well as in the insertion in the Chilean social environment and thus avoid racist acts of discrimination.
